Kiss the Girls

First things first: Kiss The Girls is not a horror film, at least not in the traditional sense. It is more akin to films like The Silence of the Lambs or Copycat. The story concerns a Washington D.C. forensic psychologist played by Morgan Freeman. When his niece disappears from the North Carolina college she is attending, he travels there to help the local police in their search. It seems that several young woman have disappeared. All of them are attractive, and they all possess some sort of talent (one plays the violin, one is a doctor). A few show up murdered, but it is soon decided that the abductor is a 'collector', that he doesn't simply want to murder or rape these women, we wants them in his possesion. Others collect classic cars or baseball cards, he collect beauties. In addition, he calls himself 'Casanova', after the legendary lover. When the local police and the F.B.I. can't seem to figure out what's going on it is up to Freeman and the only woman who managed to escape (played by Ashley Judd) to discover the identity of Casanova. Though it's not a real horror film like say, Hellraiser or Halloween, this film is full of suspense and mystery. Freeman gives his usual great performance. Judd is also superb in her role. The photography is appropriately dizzying and disorienting in scenes, which lends greatly to the suspense. This film is an excellent alternative for horror fans who want a solid, scary mystery thriller. B | |
