My namesake
The California Sea Otter is found in coastal waters north
to Alaska. They prefer areas with large kelp beds, which provide both shelter
and its favorite food, shellfish. By 1911, the population was down to only about
50 otters!! At the present time I am happy to say, there are over 2000 of these
cute little creatures and the population is growing an average 3% to 5% a year,
thanks to efforts by organizations like EDF.
