Never considered myself much of a swimmer, yet after today I feel like I've made it to shore without realizing I was swimming. How's that for a twisted analogy?
From Out Of The Blue has a running length of 80 minutes and consists of 418 cuts. The picture is frozen, locked down tight. Any blip or frame or gaffe that's there is recorded for the life of the celluloid, which hopefully will be a very long time. Zachary will make the 3/4" Beta to give to Outpost and to Sean so that they can spot out the sound work and compose the music, respectively.
It's such a major relief to have the editing complete. It didn't necessarily take more than I imagined. It just would have been impossible to imagine truly such a process beginning to end. There's just no way. Maybe next time I'll have a better handle on what it will be like. But I've been saying this about every aspect of this project. Not knowing is half the fun, though. Crazy but true.
So now it's on to other things. Need to schedule a time to spot the film with Dave of Outpost. I'll call him tomorrow and let him know a 3/4 dub is coming his way this Thursday. I should probably call Zachary as well and see if he needs any more raw materials. I also need to give Sean a call and let him know what I thought of the tape of the local artists he gave me. Had a listen and some of the cuts are great. If we can get the rights I can surely use at least two of the pieces in spots, possibly four.
I also need to contact the conformer in NYC and get an idea of schedule and price for his services. I also need to look into having the credits made. The music credits are incomplete, but they should be well before the final sound mix. I wonder what the lead time is for having credits made? I don't want this to hold up the negative being printed, but that doesn't seem likely. I wish I could afford a post-production supervisor. It's probably best for me to stumble through it the first time. That's been the theme of this whole project. I'm doing okay.
