Tanya at ULU in London, UK November 21, 1997

Ian reports:

After hearing about all the great US shows, Tanya finally returned to the UK :

Arrived at the University of London Union at about 5pm to try and find where the show would be and possibly try and sit in on the sound check. The stage was in a room next to the Union bar where Dean, Elizabeth and Dave were sitting talking. Tanya and Rich were on stage next door messing about with guitars. Tanya said Hi and I asked if it would be OK to watch the sound check. She said sure, they played :

Bury My Heart
Clipped
Bum

Before they returned to the hotel I talked with Elizabeth for a while. She was the only band member I hadn't talked to in September, and no suprises she is also incredibly nice.

They had two support bands, The Unspeakable Truth ( I think) who were OK and The Warm Jets who were really good.

Tanya played :

Acrobat (Down on set list as Untogether)
Breathe Around You
Lantern
Swoon
Low Red Moon (As awesome as ever)
The Bright Light
Pretty Deep
Dusted
Human
Bum
Mysteries of the Unexplained
Landspeed Song (First time I've heard it live)
Clipped
-------------
Sweet Ride (Stunning)
Time of the Season (Always great)

The crowd suddenly went crazy from Low Red Moon onwards. Most of the UK shows in September were pretty tame, but with the heavier set things just went nuts at the front.

Fortunately noboby talked during the quiet songs this time, but most of the crowd clapped before Tanya had finished Swoon, and she had to pause a bit before finishing the song.

People kept shouting requests and eventually Tanya responded with "I don't do requests, I'm not quite Vegas yet".

I heard that Tanya was going to play Untogether and do a second encore but it never took place.

After the show I talked to Dean about the new video, I hadn't realised it was Elizabeth in the phone box and I still can't spot Rich. He said Dave and himself were slightly hurt by the 18 year old who played the monster and had been really sorry afterwards.

Made it to the aftershow party in the Union Bar which was pretty cool. I recognised a few band members, Miki from Lush and Par & Christina from The Wannadies. The party finished, I said bye to Tanya and left.

Another great show!
