Tanya at the Throwing Muses Reunion at Lupo's in Providence, RI July 22, 2000

Laura muses:

Hello Happy List,

The Muses were great tonight and Lupo's was packed! The band was very tight and much more down to business than they were at the informal Gut Pageant. Tanya sang the same four songs as at GP (Not Too Soon, Two Step, Counting Backards and Honeychain) but she also joined the Muses for Ellen West this time. She was all smiles and that was wonderful to see. Kristin thanked Tanya about ten times for being at the show.

What I would like to know is how the internet broadcast went. Did anyone get to see the show that way?

Take care,

Laura sierra7@mediaone.net

Lisa Jay adds:

Lisa Jay further expounds:

ok here is my "official" post show review...for those of you who arent really TM fans and just want to hear aboot tanya scroll down until you see her name in caps...

ok first..thanks to everyone who gave me directions and stuff to do suggestions, but in the end it didnt help (sorry) we wandered around providence for awhile...didnt venture near thayer st for fear of never getting back...and we found there was nothing really to do besides watch all the baby skater punks at the gravity games...(where were all the big skaters??!!!) so we ended up at lupos pretty early on (a tiny bit before 6) to find them soundchecking and also to find that if you stand by the left side of the door you can see the stage, so we watched the end of soundcheck and got to see TANYA doing honeychain and we heard devil's roof and the field i belive or someting from limbo..the crowd started to grow....eventaully the guy came out and told us to form a line exactly opposite where me, my roomate, a couple from england who got there before us, and everyone else who had really gotten their first were...so my roomate who has way more balls than i decided that we were there first and we werent going to the end of the line so she grabbed me and yanked me through a bunch of peple, one of which i headbutted in the back (sorry) so anyone on this list that we may have cut through i apologize but i was not in control of what was happening at the moment ;-) so we got inside and took up residence at the right side of the stage right in front of where i had seen TANYA sounchecking (im a sneaky little bitch)so my roomate spied the new TM shirts and decided we needed them, and they are pretty nice...they are long sleeve (for only$15) and bright orange...with the TM logo in blue or white...

we watched the first band Clem Snide, whom were ok...i no someone on this list said they were really good..honestly i dont think i was paying much attention...something abot the singer started to bother me so i spent the rest of their time on stage, making growling/purring noises at the really really really cute bassist/keyboard player and generally being silly with my roomate...

then TM came out...the whoel show was really punctual for once....they were nothing less than incredible...even better than gut pageant...they seemed tighter...and kristin was all "thank you for letting us play again" "thank you for being here" my god silly girl THANK YOU....the girl is amazing...how a voice like that can come out of a girl that small i will never understand...they were on top of there game and totoally amazing... ive heard some people say that the sound was alittle off but i thoguht it was great...i dont no if it mattered where you were in the room but where i was it sounded great...they played for almost two hours..the energy level was great and it only got better when./.....

TANYA came out!! everyone went absolutly nuts!!,. tanya is looking good too..she looks like she lost the rest of her mommy weight that she seemed to still have at gut pageant...you could tell she hadnt been performing in awhile though because she kept tripping over her peddles and getting caught in the wires and laughing...at one point she even missed a chord or something and let out a little scream...musically you coudlnt tell she hasnt been performing for awhle though...she sounded great...and her added vocals to some of kristins songs made them sound absolutly great....the combonation of their two totally opposite voices sounds so beautiful...especially on two step....she played four songs with them, smiling at everyone in the crowd and looking really happy to be on stage again (makes me think maybe she'll get cracking on her own album)

after she left TM played a couple more songs and then TANYA came back for two step and the everyone left the stage...then TM came back for TWO encores (sans tanya) the show was absolutly incredible...no competition, best show ive ever been too (being a foot from tanya may have swayed my opinion though) for one of the encores TM did the song Mania,, and honestly i have never been so blown away by anything before..i was a little scared of kristin during it...that song on record no longer hasd the same impact on me because it was just amazing live... here;s the setlist that i copied off the set list...im not sure the name of the last encore song...some one help me!!...i think it was the "he dont drive in cars anymore, it reminds him of blowjobs" song...

after the show we hung around near the "backstage" area hopinh kristin and tanya (ok mostly tanya) would come out but saw neither of them and had a long drive back....so we left,.,...what an amazing show...it really makes me hope that tanya will crank out an album of her own and tour so everyone on the list can see her :-) the only bad thing about the night (besides the long drive home) was BillyO's shirt...BLAH! what was he thiking???

i will post pictures when i get them :-)
curious to read other people's reaction
