Tanya with Sky Heroes at the Paradise Club in Boston, MA November 30, 1996
Ata reports: Well, I was at both shows and I really enjoyed them. Especially the Boston show because I got to meet a few people from the list. You guys were really nice, even though we didn't spend much time together. I was too lazy and cold to leave my spot in line a little bit behind everybody else, and I slept through the appointed meeting time at the McDonald's. Anyway, I recognized Laura from her web page, as well as a certain unusual hat someone was wearing, so it wasn't hard to find everybody. It was a nice size group but you all went to the front of the stage and by the time I came back from the bar there was no way to get back up to the front of the stage because it filled up pretty quickly. Besides, I don't think my friends wanted to be that close to the stage anyway. Oh, and just for the record, that was NOT me making a nuisance of myself between songs during Tanya's set. It was some guy on the balcony just behind and above us (he was a look-alike of Weird Al Yankovich). The first couple of times he started yelling Tanya looked over at the table where my friends and I were sitting and we pointed to the guy above us so she looked up there. Anyway, enough about him, I don't know what his problem was. The show was great, both of them. They did the same set at both the New York and Boston show. I'm sure someone will post the set list, which I think I noticed one of you jumping on stage after the show to retrieve (or was it a stray guitar pick). There were one or two very "Dusted" type up tempo Belly like songs, but mostly Tanya branched out a bit and experiemented with different arrangements and vocal phrasing. I'm wondering whether Madder Rose has played its last gig because those two really meshed well with Tanya and Dean ( I know Stacy the drummer is on his way to Chicago to be in Veruca Salt). I would have mixed emotions about that because I really really like Madder Rose. Anyway, the band sounded great. I"m more curious than ever now to hear the CD to find out how it translated onto the recording. It was nice to hear some of you got to meet Tanya before the show, I guess on her way to her sound check. She seemed to be in great spirits during the show. I was hoping some of you would have made it to the Middle East after the show, but I know how much of a hassle that is if you don't have a car after the T stops running. It would have been my chance to spend more time talking in person with everybody, but there is always the next time. It turns out there was a really good band in the bakery and a fun crowd around the bar, including quite a few familiar faces from the Paradise show. So great meeting everybody. Looking forward to reading what everybody thought of the show. I meant to bring a camera to take some shots of the group to post on the internet butII lost my focus as I was leaving New York and I forgot the camera. bye for now. Ata
Laura reports: Brian asked, "Where are all the promised reports from last nights' show?" And Laura will reply, seeing as she's probably the only one who has access to email so far...Everyone else had to drive home first... Okay, the show was just PERFECT! Tanya sang the following songs:
Acrobat was such an amazing song, and Tanya's vocals were crazy! I mean that in a good way :) About 12 of us all met at Micky D's, as arranged, and sure enough, Brian from Detroit did in fact travel 12 hours to see the woman herself! That's dedication. Everyone is very cool and nice, and I was so happy to have gotten the chance to meet a lot of you! We all gathered up front for the show, and we had a great time! Tanya played for an hour and her songs were all very upbeat with a few acoustic songs thrown in as well. When everyone else gets back I'm sure they will be able to tell you even more about the show. Afterwards we all hung out together, and it was nice to be able to talk with others who love Belly and Tanya as much as I do... *swoon* Thanks you guys!!! Hope this helped. Tanya is a goddess and she has once again proved herself to be an excellent vocalist and guitarist in every possible way. Yeah. =)
