Tanya at Water Place Park in Providence, RI September 4, 1997

Doug reports:

Hi all...

The show in Providence was very memorable... the band sounded like they need a little more rehearsal time, but the songs really sounded great live. Tanya was a little tenative at first, but she started rocking out after the first couple of songs, doing her patented side-step marching dance for us. By the end of the show she seemed pretty at ease. Even the songs I wasn't too crazy about had me tapping my toes.

Laura, Jennifer and I got down to Waterplace Park at about 5:30, just after Catherine Wheel started. They sounded pretty good, a lot like Pink Floyd, IMHO. They played lots of stuff from their new album, and some older songs (Heal, Black Metallic, Way Down and a couple others)...

Tanya started playing at about 6:30-7pm, just as the sun was going down. She's got Dave from the Muses playing drums, and man, he can pound those skins! Her guitar player is also real good. Tanya played about 10-12 songs, including Low Red Moon and Dusted. She also played (in no particular order) Bright Light, Pretty Deep, Swoon, Human, Landspeed Song, Lantern, Acrobat, Clipped and a cover of the Zombies(?)' Time of the Season. Did I miss any? No sign of any Muses songs. We tried to get her to play Goat Girl, but she laughed us off. She seemed pretty flattered that we knew it, tho. There were also the obligatory requests to play Feed the Tree, to which she responded "Someday I'll play that again."

Anyway, during their last song, Time of the Season, she came into the crowd and dragged Laura up on stage with her, asking her to sing the "Ahhs" with her, and I must say Laura did a pretty damned good job bopping on stage with Tanya, and got a big hand from the crowd afterward. Rock on!

Oh, and much thanks to all the rest of you all for leaving me alone in the company of two babes! Whew-hoo!

Laura reports:

Well what Doug said there was the show in a nutshell. It was fabulous! Sorry you guys didn't get a report earlier from us, but we were all very tired after such a long day of enjoying the best music on the face of this earth. Ahem, and just to give my two cents on the whole gig, I don't think my voice really came through there during my duet with Tanya, since she has a tendency to overpower ANYONE with that voice of hers... Okay, a little joke there. But anyway, Tanya was rocking throughout! I was so glad to see her go into her awkward looking "only Tanya could do it" dance that was so much a part of each Belly show. It just made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I'm glad she has realized that those Belly songs are still a part of her too, and that they are *her* songs, so she shouldn't feel so strange singing them still. Before I go, I would like to extend a special thank you to my buddies of the evening, Jennifer and Doug! Yeah! Rock on! I LOVED hanging out with you guys! You made my day just perfect, and I think the 3 of us should be hired as Tanya's backup dancers. We could go far!

So now a note to those who didn't make it to the show. You MUST go to the next one, okay? This can't be missed.

Daniel reports:

WELL NOW I'M IN THE FREAKIN' CLUB!!!!!!

After seething with envy over those of you who have had experiences meeting Tanya I finally got my own "Tanya Story"

THANK YOU RHODE ISLAND!!!!

I got to Waterplace Really early, like 3:00. So we just walked around for a while. Well at 4:00 I made my way to the seating area. When All of a sudden I noticed an open tent with two women sitting inside. One of them was blonde and kinda looked like Tanya. After doing a double take....it WAS Tanya!!! So I non-chalantly made my way over to the tent..not wanting to disturb the interview. When a security director came over and asked what I thought I was doing, I knew my time was up!

I just said "well, I'm just checking stuff out" and he said "Well Tanya's doing interviews now so it's not cool for you to be hanging around here!" So, VERY DISSAPPOINTED, I left without saying anything.

So We watched the concert and everything was cool.

THEN! I heard Tanya was going to be signing posters after the show! YES!!!! I FINALLY get to meet her! When the show was over I BOLTED over to the autograph tent. I was right at the front of the line. I was all giddy with my Poster and Camera ready to meet Her. well, we waited for 30 min when a PR guy came out and said "I'm sorry but Tanya's not feeling well and won't be signing" NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, DEJECTED, and Pissed...We started back to our car.

BUT THEN!!!!! I saw the tour bus and Tanya was standing RIGHT THERE!!!! I once again nonm-chalantly made my way over and stood right next to her. When Security started walking over to me I Shouted out "HI, Tanya!"

She Smiled at me (ahhh, What a smile) as if to say "Now you know that you're not supposed to be here" But she came over to me, and started to talk. I told her I drove all the way from New Jersey to see her. She almost didn't believe me! But she very gracefully signed my poster AND posed for a picture even though she was tired. I said Thank you about 100 times and walked away with a smile from ear to ear!

She's a Saint!!!

I FINALLY got to meet her and she really appreciates her fans!

Daniel
