Tanya at The Strand in Providence, RI October 13, 1997
Derek reports: The show last night in Providence was wonderful, as all Tanya shows are. But I believe it was a bad setting for her and the band. Her set was part of a "Fall Fest" put on by a local radio station and the bands around her were just too heavy, causing an influxuation of music style. She played fourth out of the five bands and was almost forced to play her harder stuff, with the exception of Acrobat and Time of the Season (opening and closing songs, respectively). Hopefully, this turned on some of the younger more energetic fans that were in attendence. Although, personally being from Providence, I wish that she would have headlined a show so that she could have played what she wanted, how she wanted, and for how long she wanted.
Some News -- after Tanya's set, Laura and I spoke with Elizabeth, and she said that they have completed an amazing video for Bright Light, which is supposedly the next single in the US. This could be the prime time video that everyone has been hoping for. From what Elizabeth says, its dark and spooky with that eerie alien like touch. -- Bury My Heart has been recorded and probably will be a b-side on Bright Light. YEAH!!!!!!! -- The band has been learning Goat Girl and Influenza, maybe to played at future show. DOUBLE YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ed reports: Well I got to both shows and must agree with the general list opinion. . . they were both great shows. I was worried about getting tickets to the PVD show, but it turns out the radio station was giving them away at the door the night of the show. I'll have to give the Barenaked Ladies credit, they put on a great show too. Also, did anyone else see Tom Gorman there. If you guys were all in the front you probably didn't. He got there about ten minutes before Tanya went on and I think he left about ten minutes before the Barenaked Ladies went on. That makes two sightings at Providence shows in the last two months.
