Movie info:
Two Jedi Knights on a peace treaty had
an unexpected detour leading to an encounter with a young slave boy with
extraordinary powers (aka The Force). The boy may turn out to be THE ONE
(no, he's not Keanu Reeves) who will bring balance to the galaxy.
My 2 Cents worth:
The 20th Century Fox drum roll.
The words "A long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away..." soon follows.
Words starts to crawl up the screen heading into deep space...and many
fans finally see their 16 year wait come to an end. Yes my friend,
Star Wars is back. But does the movie live up to expectations?
Well...Yes and No. Lets be fair here, no matter what George Lucas came out with in Episode One, it will never live up to expectations. Throughout the weeks, there were reviews that says the movie is poor while fans says its the best thing they've ever seen. Who to trust? Golli? Uh...Okay, here goes:
The story line of the movie IS quite a disappointment. Basically there's too much of a repetition of Star Wars: A New Hope (aka Episode IV) going on towards the end of the movie. It looked as if George Lucas was: a) paying homage to himself for directing Episode IV or b)he ran out of ideas to end the movie.
The Lightsabre scenes (oh...mama the sweet sweet sound of the humming of a lightsabre : )~~~ *causes drooling* ) were unfortunately kept to a minimum.
The computer animation is first class no doubt, but personally I feel there has been a bit of overkill. The underwater craft scene is more suitable for a amusement park ride. There is one thing that I dislike with this movie, it seems to me that George is so eager to impress audience with the special effects that he seems to forget we're here to see some story too!!
Perhaps there's too much story to be told within the 2 hours plus movie but the directing seems to be very hurried as one scene is quickly shoved into another so that Mr Lucas can amuse us with more special effects. (why??????) Moreover, the birth of Anakin Skywalker is too Jesus for my liking.
The casting of the actors are of first grade. Liam Neeson turns in a fine performance, Ewan Mcgregor does an excellent Sir Alec Guiness impression as Obi-wan Kenobi, Jake Lloyd is not that bad as Anakin Skywalker but unfortunately Jar Jar Binks IS REALLY THE MOST IRRITATING THING SINCE THE EWOKS. (I can't even understand what he's saying half the time)
Hopefully, the story will get more interesting as Anakin grows up in Episode two (to be released in 2002?) like in the case of "The Empire Strikes Back". Meanwhile, lets go grab some of them StarWars toys!
I say...Go watch the show anyway! (Lets Beat TITANIC!!!) and May the Force be with you.
Rating:
