movie info:
On Guard! The legend
of Zorro is back! Sadly, this time Zorro (Hopkins) turned into Zero overnight
when his mortal enemy the evil Don Rafael killed his wife, kidnapped his
daughther, burned his house and threw his swashbuckling ass into the prison.
20 years on, Zorro escapes to seek vengeance while training a protege to
continue his legacy, you know..the usual stuff.
my 2 cents worth:
First of all, I must say
I was quite impressed with sword fighting scenes, some of the cherography
are worthy of a Jackie Chan movie. Secondly, the cast itself was
very interesting. I never thought I'd say this but, Hopkins really looked
pretty good as the old Zorro. You'll realise his face never truly wore
a smile since after the death of his wife.
The casting of Antonio should be easy cos he is the hottest latin male actor ard, plus you can see he got this swagger in him to play the swashbuckling hero. But the best thing about the show will go to Catherine Zeta Jones!!! Mamamia, Steven Speilberg must be wearing his good glasses when he decided to cast her immediately into the movie after catching "Titanic" the television series. This gal will definitely go far! You would also come to realise that Antonio is one lucky bastard, first he got to kiss Sylma Hayeck and now Catherine...man, as Rod Stewart once sang, "some guys have all the luck" How true indeed.
rating:
$6.50 outta $7 (watching
Catherine is already well worth $6)

Zorro Jr: Of course, the
pointy end goes into the other man.
my 2 cents worth:
The tag line on the poster
says "Saving the world in style" and boy were they correct on that one!
From the first frame to the last the movie has bombarded the viewer with
either fantastic graphics or 'stylo mylo' clothings, the cheong- sams and
the cat suit worn by Uma Thurman could send any heart pumping at double
time!
However, this movie in overall is really style without much substance, and they really could've done so much better considering they did have one Oscar winner and 2 other Oscar nominees starring in the movie...but alas the plot is sorely missing. Still excellent casting choices made by choosing Ralph and Uma (Gwen Paltrow was the original choice) These two really look incredible and after watching the movie you'll be tempted to speak in British slang! The dialouge may be a tad lame, but there are moments of brilliance though, I really do love the fact that the show is so British (from behaviour to cars) and how they can suddenly stop whatever they're doing so to have tea. : )
Rating:
$5.50 outta $7 (much of which
is due to the catsuit)

A hollywood look into the
American pornography industry from the 70's to the 80s/ the life and times
of a (fictional) porno actor and superstar "Dirk Diggler". This movie
was previously banned in Singapore even though it did recieve 3 Oscar nominations.
(Artistic enough?) and Entertainment Weekly hailed it as the best movie
of 1997.
my 2 cents worth:
Oh yes! 3 cheers for the
local board of censorship for finally releasing this movie, better late
than never! Boogie nights is certainly not your average normal film,
firstly because of the look into the porno industry is definitely very
interesting aside from that, there's so many "coke" scenes (no, not the
beverage) you get this Trainspotting feel.
Mark Wahlberg certainly gave a very good performance as Dirk Diggler, who looks so naive and idealistic. There's many interesting characters in the movie as well, like Burt Reynold's character whom believes that his porn films are actually works of art. (look out for his bedroom scene, the room is almost identical to "Saturday Night Live") Heather Graham's potrayal as "RollerGirl" is also worth a mention and William H Macy once again did a very good job as usual in the role of a pathetic husband whose wife goes screwing around, unfortunately his role is a bit small.
As the film turns from the 70's into the 80's, you'll start to realise the era has changed from the idealistic into cold reality. Everything goes wrong for everybody, they fell from superstars into the butt of the joke. Very Sad.
Of course, the highlight of the show is defintely the most talked-about scene in which Mr Diggler whips out his "Godzilla".

When ever a movie maker doesn't
want his name to be assiciated with the movie he's making, under the ruling
of the Association of film-making, he/she needs to change the name to an
alias known as "Alan Smithee". This is the story of a director
named Alan Smithee who wants to remove his name from the movie... so in
short, this guy is screwed.
So Mr Smithee decides to burn the film up in flames while the producers are desperately trying to find him back 'cos the film costs a bomb! (200 million! *what's this? Titanic 2: The Return of Jack Dawson??*)
my 2 cents worth:
Ahh..first of all, don't
be misled by the posters in the news papers, Stallone, Whoopi and Jackie
Chan are only guest-starring in this movie and not the main stars.
Alright, now on with the movie. The movie really started off pretty
interestingly enough, lots of bitching from Hollywood hotshots and
producers alike, it's like an insiders look into Hollywood.
However, as the movie progresses... it's kinda starting to bore me, it starts to feel the movie's never gonna end 'cos there's just happens to get one too many interviews with the movers and shakers inside Hollywood. This show should appeal to the people inside the industry as it gives them a chance to laugh at themselves, the other type of folks who should probably watch this movie are the Ryan O'Neal fans.. the blow-job scene in the movie is my favourite and probably the funniest scene in the entire movie.

Martin Scorsese film about
the life and tribulations of the 14th (and current) Dalai Lama.
My 2 cents worth:
This movie has very very
very beautiful cinematography, the last time I was so impressed has got
to be from "The English Patient". However, this movie seems to be
a bit slow moving and even though it only lasted 2 hours and 15 min, I
thought 4 hours has passed me by!
You also gotta give credit to Scorsese for hiring so many unknowns to act in the movie, also the way he depicted Chairman Mao was *snickers* cool! But, one of the faults in the movie is that, it did not fully explain what happened to some of the characters and this is kind of disappointing. Overall you should go watch it if you're into those beautiful scenery or those politcal thingy.
