my 2 cents worth:
Now this is not the typical type of animation
you'd expect from a major studio, I mean its a biblical story and all!
But I truly have to take my hat off to DreamWorks SKG for having the guts
to touch on a topics that is not an adaptation of a fairy tale.
But, only 3 minutes into the movie itself, I'd already noticed something about this movie, while the artists obviously done great work to animate the water, and the movements of the characters, the background is totally stale and bland. Its also true that most of the female hebrews looked like "Pocahantos" but I mean how many types of faces can you really draw? so I'll let this part slide. However, you may also realise that Moses' sister whom spent her life as a slave is a tad too "fat"...I mean aren't they supposed to be underfed and all?
As you can see, DreamWorks really relied on their insider connections to get big names into lending their voices to their animated productions and this the casting is really wonderful, Val Kilmer's voice (though not that recognisable) really gave Moses this compassionate feel but however it is Ralph (The English Patient) Fiennes and Patrick (Star Trek : TNG's Jean Luc Picard) Stewarts fantastic voices that made this movie fantastic. There's just something about their accent I guess.
Another thing about the story, I'm rather disappointed with the fact that it ended without touching much on the subject of Moses collecting the 10 commandments and how he smash it into pieces (ala Charlton Heston)...*sigh* that would truly be a sight. Oh yeah, if you do see the movie, keep your eyes peeled for the parting of the red sea, the scene is simply breathtaking and definitely the highlight of the entire movie. (especially when they showed the whale swimming)
Overall...like Antz, DreamWorks produced yet another animated movie with a stronger storyline to Disney but still have a bit of catching up with the latter when it comes to animation. In a few years time, Disney is gonna be in deep trouble.

my 2 cents worth:
You'd probably wouldn't want to spend
another $7 to watch yet another animated movie on Ants after the recent
showing of "Antz". Well, a pity if you think that way, because "A
bug's life" is even more superior to "Antz" in almost every single level
from Story to graphics, and this is really quite difficult for me to say
as I felt the fellows from DreamWorks has done an excellent job on "Antz".
The only thing which I felt "Antz" is better than "A bug's life" is actually
Woody Allen's character. Though both characters are almost the same,
somehow Flik does not have the 'nervous wreck' feel that Woody has perfected
in poltraying.
The computer generated graphics is simply breathtaking and jaw dropping at the same time. Notice the animated bird's movements hopping around, it is so life-like that you couldn't believe that it is made by a computer. Seems that Disney is sending out a message to all future competitors : "We are still the best"
However, I'm quite surprised by the rather gruesome ending to the bad guys, I mean we are still talking about a target audience of children right? By the way, the superb casting of Kevin Spacey as "Hopper" the mean ass is praise worthy, who else except maybe Samuel L Jackson could do a better job?
One more thing, the best and most hilarious feature of the movie is definitely the delightful 'bloopers' scenes that the team has added in during the credit roll, so DO NOT LEAVE THE THEATRE UNTIL THE LAST NAME IS SHOWN!
Trust me folks, this movie is a must-see and by watching it on the small screen is not doing it justice at all, go pay the $7 and be amazed like I was.

First, the truth: I was only watching
this show 'cos my friend made me watched it.
Ok, maybe the show was not as bad as I imagined it to be... but still, IT IS A FAIRY TALE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HERE! Drew Barrymore seems to be returning to her roots and playing cute and wholesome characters she started her career with as the gal who kissed E.T. It is not too bad a career move I should add. But I think that the person who stole the show was actually her co-star Anjelica Houston who has finally found a meaty role after her "Addams Family" days.
The movie started off in a very Titanic-ish manner which literally led me to roll my eyes up, but as the movie progresses, you find a very independent and strong willed Danielle (which is Cinderella's real name, I personally would have thought it was "Cindy"). This lass can fight, read books and do the housework as well! So naturally, the Prince Charming will inevitably turn out to be a loser or in a girl's definiton : Sensetive New Age Guy.
Ahh..but as the movie progresses, you'll start to notice that its getting to more comedic as the show heads towards the climax and what a mistake it turns out to be, cat fights..bitching...insults...sheesh! Starts to remind me of those Hong Kong flicks, especially the what eventually happened to Anjelica.
Overall, this is THE movie to bring girls
along guys, and its not entirely bad too...except that you already know
what happens in the ending and your gal friend may not find you to be as
sensitive as the Prince.
According to
my other friend, the trailer for STAR WARS EPISODE ONE can be found in
the movie...which I didn't get to see as I got in late for the trailers.

Whoa...this movie finally makes its way
to Singapore, and its about time too. This 1995/96 Japanese anime
based on the popular manga as usual has one of those typical "cheem" (profound)
moral undertone that Japanese comics likes to have. Meaning, if you
don't get it, just sit back and enjoy the animation.
Too bad I was a bit late for the movie, I heard that the starting of movie really is quite a show, but however half way through, the movie shifted more on talking and explaining about the movie's villian and it sort of bore me a little. Well, the movie is kind of "Blade Runner-meets-Strange Days-meets-Total Recall", so if you happen to like any of these three shows, you'd love this one.
The animation of this movie is superb, a pity it has less action scenes than I would have preferred but when it happens, it simply takes my breath away. Excellent back drop by the artists who gave an extremely intersting "Hong Kong" look to the town the movie took place in. The movie also happens to feature a track "One Minute Warning" by none other than my favourtie band U2 in collaboration with Brian Eno. This track can be found in their "Passengers: Original Soundtracks 1" album which is an extremely uh...moody type of album. However the track for the movie is brilliant.
If you are expecting some song and dance in the movie, I suggest you wait for the next Disney flick. If you are hoping for gore or lots of nudity [the movie is rated R(A)] you can also forget it. However, I do hope that you give this movie a try, after all how often does this type of chance comes along? I hope more of these animes do come along.

Well.. this movie sure took its time to
come here. Having seen the show on VCD format several months back,
I couldn't really remember much on the show aside from the fact that IT
SUCK!
Singaporeans probably wouldn't know who Katie Holmes is, in fact she is among one of the television stars who are on an onslaught to cross over to the silver screen by starring in yet another horror flick. (eg. Jennifer "wonder bra" Hewitt", Neve Campbell and Sarah Michelle Gellar aka Buffy) Well, having more horror flicks is one thing...but having more sucky horror flicks is another.
I am in fact very disappointed as it is directed by one of the X-files (tv series) director, David Nutter whom had directed some good X-files episodes. But on with the movie, this movie disappoints as if I can remember correctly, a horrible story line. Even though the idea was pretty X-files-ish, I guess it cannot sustain over a period of 90 minutes (or whatever the time is) In fact the movie seems to be drag and the scene where our hero and heroine went to an asylum to investigate nearly bore me out of my brains.
The ending of the movie seems to have ripped off from "Mars Attacks" and while it works for that wonderful cheesy movie, the result for this flick is simply anti-climatic. I wanna see blood and gore!!!!!!!
