7 Year Bitch

KNDD Band Profile

In the first years of this decade the world of music was changing rapidly. Here in Seattle the fire ignited a revolution calling a quick and sturdy end to the blandness of the eighties. While grunge became a household word the fire of a generation quickly became fashionable while hundreds of musicians from across the country trekked to our fair city to exploit its sound.

It was during these days that vocalist Selene Vigil, guitarist Stefanie Sargent, drummer Valerie Agnew and bassist Elizabeth Davis ran into each other in the rock clubs and cafes of the quickly growing scene. They shared a similar interest in music — not only as fans, but as players — so the four joined together to form 7 Year Bitch. Without much ambition or expectation the women started writing songs.

But things began happening and soon the group found themselves in the studio working on the single, "Lorna". The self released song was praised on the local level so 7 Year Bitch continued on their mission, eventually recording the album, Sick 'Em, in 1992.

Just before the official street date of that LP, Stefanie Sargent died an untimely death. Although it was a crippling blow to the band 7 Year Bitch decided to push on. They recruited Roisin Dunne in the fall of 1992.

The group put the pieces of their lives back together through performances, songwriting and recording. In 1994, the success of the follow up album, Viva Zapata, sent the four ladies on a non-stop tour of America and Europe. Winning fans all along the way 7 Year Bitch returned home to Seattle to find major label interest in their project.

The quartet signed to Atlantic Records and hooked up with producer Billy Anderson (Melvins, Mr. Bungle, Swans, Neurosis). A road trip down the coast landed them in San Francisco's Brilliant Studios where they went to work on the music that would become their major label debut, Gato Negro.

The band's sound unfolded a bit, offering a new perspective on the furious rants and brash tracks that had come to be 7 Year Bitch's trademark. With the single, "24,900 Miles Per Hour", speeding through the underground 7 Year Bitch has once again committed to the road for a series of shows that will prove their competence, drive and uncompromising demand.
