Pure Power, unadulterated passion, and the kind of chemistry between band members few artists will be lucky enough to find. That's why C/Z Records were so excited when 7 Year Bitch joined the family. At the time they signed, we knew they would aspire to greatness within the indie world. However, the attention the band has received surpasses all expectations.

Everett True wrote in the Melody Maker that 7 Year Bitch's debut single was "a righteous explosion of rage and vitriol". Seattle's Hype magazine captured the band when it described their sound as "a whirlwind of blinding grit and power crunch, taking the remedial song writing processes which have made bands such as Nirvana, L7 and the Clash accessible to the masses and lauded heroes of the underground."

One year after 7 Year Bitch formed things started happening at a rapid rate. Their debut single, "Lorna", was released and the initial pressing of 1000 were gone in less than a couple of months. Their regional fan base began to flourish and a member of Pearl Jam asked them to take their place opening for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers' Northwest dates in February '92. Then came their New Music Seminar debut, where they were welcomed with open arms by the national music community. A flurry of accolades from the press followed and it seemed nothing could stop them! A month before the scheduled release of their debut album, guitarist Stefanie Sargent died. The release was put on hold until the band was ready to decide whether or not 7 Year Bitch should continue.

After serious thought, the rest of the band — vocalist Selene Vigil, bassist Elizabeth Davis and drummer Valerie Agnew — decided to carry on. They subsequently released a hand-numbered, limited edition 10" picture disc and their debut release, "Sick 'Em", which included all their recordings to date (all the songs on the 10", all three tracks from the "Lorna" single and cuts from all the compilations they've appeared on) in October 1992. Both are dedicated to the memory of Stefanie. As the CD hit the streets, the band drove to Los Angeles to pick up the new guitarist, Roisin (pronounced Ro-sheen) Dunne, to bring her back to Seattle. Dunne, a native of Seattle, spent the last three years working in the film industry in LA and played guitar on the side. 7 Year Bitch had been jamming with a number of guitarists prior to Dunne's arrival, but according to the band, none of the had the chemistry they were looking for - except Roisin. As of November 1st, 1992, 7 Year Bitch was an official four piece again. And since then they have been taking the world by storm! They completed a European Tour during the Spring of '93 and received rave reviews from the predictably fickle NME and Melody Maker. More recently they have played to packed houses across the nation opening for Silverfish, L7 and Love Battery, Cypress Hill and Rage Against The Machine.

7 Year Bitch's follow-up to "Sick 'Em", entitled "Viva Zapata", was released in May. Watch out for their new Atlantic album, scheduled for spring 1996.
