Review from the April 26, 1996 show at Golden West Saloon in Albuquerque

7YB played the last bigtime show at the Legendary Golden West in Albuquerque, NM on Friday, April 26, 1996. The show started off loud and vicious, with a very packed crowd delightedly squishing first row onlookers against the carpet nailed to the front of the stage. 7YB proceeded to thoroughly enlighten Albuquerque about what makes a unique and dangerously extraordinary band. The sound was great, 7YB was incredible and Elizabeth's bass playing was absolutely top notch (as always). Drums and guitar pounded and growled through every atom of every person in the room. Elizabeth pitched a mood ring into the crowd at the start of the show, which this onlooker was fortunately able to catch. Selene was her usual invincible, staring, frightening self, digging deep into her diva soul when she stepped back all the way to the drums and proceeded to gouge into our brains the evil and unfair horrors that MIA relays.
Women clearly and forcibly dominated the pit. Moshing was intense, with this onlooker slamming and happily linking arms with others at the foot of the stage to maintain verticality. The occasional stage diver flew off on the left. The crowd intensely enjoyed the show, and loudly voiced their appreciation. Some in the crowd yelled for Dead Men Don't Rape and many sang along with the songs, both new and old. I don't think there was a human in the crowd who wasn't completely blown away by the ferocity with which they played.
After the show, band members signed autographs, hung out and visited with happy audience members, and seemed genuinely pleased to be greeted so warmly. This being went home with knees skinned, shins and arms bruised, and a deep joy having seen one of the best bands that has ever graced the stage of the Golden West. It was somehow fitting that they should close the stage. We can't wait to see them back here again!
