Review from the May 31, 1997 show at The Casbah in San Diego

All I can say is if there was any doubt before, seeing 7 Year Bitch live
at the Casbah showed just how awesome these four human beings are. I
read the reviews on their May 24 performance at Moe's and now am pissed
that I didn't get to Seattle to see them. And that webcast thing didn't
work, or (more likely) I was too stupid to figure it out.
Lost Goat started the night and unfortunately the crowd hadn't arrived
yet (9:00) so they had to play to an empty floor. all I can say is the
crowd that eventually trickled in was not worthy of Lost Goat. The poor
Goats were looking kind of awkward and well, lost, although that didn't
seem to affect their playing. finally a lone woman walked into the
middle of the empty floor and grooved, oblivious to the drunken stares
of a few pathetic San diegans. of course, turns out she was/is Valerie
Agnew.
next was a los angeles band, Bobsled which was a good, fun band. their
lead singer wore a bear's head hat and ended their set playing the
zephyr and singing something about nailing jesus to a board. next was
red dog or something like that, apparently friends of bobsled and they
were good too.
7 Year Bitch came on at around 12:30 and they apparently played the same
list of songs they played at Moe's. "Hip like Junk" never sounded this
good on the CD, that's for sure. I've never seen them live before and
aside from their awesome music, they are really good looking. Selene
vigil in particular is otherworldly. I don't think she even sweats.
The new guitarist Lisa seemed a really easygoing addition and although
her fashion sense seems to head in a different direction than the other
Bitches (which is cool), the sound was tight as usual, in fact, there
seemed to be no adjustment change at all to the new guitarist.
All in all, I'm glad I drove the 120 miles to see them. I know others
have traveled much farther and all I can say is it's worth the
drive/flight.
