Review from the July 24, 1996 show at Veranda At Starwood in Antioch
Submitted by Amie Leeking:
Two friends of mine did a little preparation for the show, if you know
what I mean. We were all excited and our goal for the evening was to
meet 7YB. We didn't really care too much to see the other bands on the
bill.
I park my car at Starwood, we get out and we hear 7YB playing! It was
too early for them to go on. So we gather our stuff and we RUN to the
gate. I am pissed cos they had to go on 30 minutes or so early because
of a storm watch. We're missing the band we came exculsively to see! We
get patted at the gate. I have a camera and tape recorder with me in
hopes of an interview. (I tried to set one up via Atlantic Records, but
nothing sould be confermed). The employee at the gate makes me take my
camera and tape recorder to my car. I run to my car and back. Then we
all run all the way up to the stage. It has been a long time since I've
ran that fast! We get to see about half of the set.
Robin, Stacey and I are pretty lit and are acting crazy. We yell at the
band, dance, do the pogo, and yell at the crowd for not dancing! I
remember Stacey screaming in jest, "show me yer titties!" Selene's
response was, "who's the originater of that one?" That was quiet
amusing.
7YB absoutly rocked through their set. Unfourtunatly the crowd was lame,
but it usually is in these parts. There was a lot of energy coming from
the band and it rubbed of on me and my friends.
This is where the "fun" began. After their set, Stacey, Robin and I
stood to the left of the stage right up front, waiting to get Elizabeth's
attention. We were determined. We got her attention and she came up and
shook our hands...then she ran off back stage and was socializing,
breaking down etc. Try number one failed.
Try number two...while Tracy Bohnam was performing Elizabeth was once
again hanging around the stage area. We tried to get her attention and
no luck. Robin said, "let's go, she's giving us the shaft". I thought,
she can't 7 Year Bitch is too cool, they can't do that.
So we do head out towards the car, but Stacey has an idea. Why not go
around the back by the busses?! So we do. Third times a
charm...Elizabeth was back there and we were yelling her name. By this
time she was probably wondering who these three crazy chics were yelling
her name everytime we spotted her. Ahhh yeah...it worked. Elizabeth
came over. I told her I was from a college radio station and I want to
get and ID from her. She said she hates doing them. We all shot the
shit for awhile and I did get a great ID from her. We offered her a
smoke and she agreed. We all got in my car and took car of bid-ness. A
security guy was harrassing us to go see the show and get out of the
car. Is there a law in Tennesse about not being able to sit in your car
at a concert? No. So we shoot the shit and I tell we tell her about the
band
Stacey, Robin, her sister and I are in. I have a tape in my car with one
of our songs on it. I play it and Elizabeth totally dug it! It was very
flattering.
Elizabeth told us we were cool and took us on the tour bus! Ahh yeah...
we got to meet Roisin, Valerie, Billy (who produced Gato Negro), and Lisa
their "soundbitch" oh and their manager whose name is slipping my mind
right now. Billy hooked us up with stickers and lighters. Elizabeth put
on Royal Trux and Stacey, Robin, Elizabeth and I all started dancing on
the bus. Then Stacey said, "now show yer titties" and lifted up her
shirt. (I guess Stacey likes to say that!) The rest of us were
like...uhhh ok and just looked at her and
continued dancing. Some others came on the bus. The party was about to
begin...liquor...beer...and smoke. Shew...and I was already "temporarly
out of service".
We stayed on the bus for a short while and then Elizabeth wanted to go
see Everclear play. So we all walked in the direction of the stage. Oh-
by the way, Elizabeth and us exchanged home adresses. She was so fucking
cool. We said goodbye and she gave us a kiss on the cheak and said to
stay in touch.
Stacey, Robin and my world was rocked that night. I didn't feel so
bad about missing half the set. Meeting them definitely made up for it.
I am glad they were so cool. Because you know when you really like a
band and you have a mental picture of what their personalities are
like? Well 7YB definitely were what I though they'd be like. Very
axcessable, funny and fun to hang out with.
We didn't stick around for Everclear because we were satisfied
customers. Thank you Elizabeth for the great night!
