ACME: Comedy theater in Los Angeles. Brad Sherwood performed there with the very funny "ACME Unplugged" improv group; Wayne Brady's former improv troupe, "Houseful of Honkeys", performed there as well. SEE ALSO: "HoH"
Banter: Exchange of words (often insults) between host Clive Anderson and a player, often Greg Proops or Tony Slattery, before games.
Game: The improvised bits performed on the show, i.e.: "Party Quirks", "Props", "Hoedown".
Improv: 1. The art of improvisation - making up scenes and skits off the cuff while live onstage, often from audience suggestions; 2. World-famous comedy club in L.A. where the "Drew Carey Show" cast did live improv performances, which led to the US version of "Whose Line".
Player: Someone who plays the games on WL. Also known as "contestant", "performer"
Twiglets: A nearly fat-free, wheat-based snack food similar to a pretzel stick, which tastes more like an actual twig. Frequently mentioned by Tony Slattery and Paul Merton, especially when playing Party Quirks.
Whoser: 1. Someone who is completely obsessed with Whose Line; 2. A member of the unofficial Whose Line fan club; 3. Someone who spends their day singing hoedowns and making obscure references only another Whoser would understand.
Whoseritis: 1. The condition of dreaming about Whose Line and/or any of the contestants; 2. Being generally obsessed with WL above and beyond the accepted definition of Whoser.
ABC: "American Broadcating Company". Network that broadcast the US "WLiiA?" in the US and Canada. Also broadcast "The Drew Carey Show" (SEE: "DCS") and "The Wayne Brady Show" (SEE: "WBS").
ABCF: "ABC Family Channel". Network that broadcasts the US "WLiiA?" at 10:00 and 10:30pm every weeknight.
CC: "Comedy Central". Network that broadcast the UK "WLiiA?" in the US. Most Americans were introduced to "WLiiA?" through Comedy Central. Also broadcast the game show "Vs." when it was on. (SEE: "VS") Now broadcasts Drew Carey's Green Screen Show.
CTV: "Canadian Television". Network that broadcast the US "WLiiA?" in Canada.
DLiiA?: "Drew's Line is it Anyway?". Commonly used to differentiate US show from original version. Also known as: "DL", "WLiiA?USA"
DCS: "(The) Drew Carey Show". Sitcom associated with WL, as it starred Drew Carey and Ryan Stiles. Other WL cast members have appeared in two episodes of the show which featured improv bits and were broadcast live.
GAF: "Getting Along Famously". TV show starring Colin Mochrie and his wife, Debra McGrath. Airs at 9:30pm Fridays on CBC in Canada.
GSS: "Green Screen Show", AKA "Drew Carey's Green Screen Show". An improv show featuring many of the same cast members as DLiiA, with animated backgrounds, props and costumes drawn in. Currently broadcast on Comedy Central in the US.
HD: "Hoedown". WL Game, popular with everyone except those who must perform it.
HoH: "Houseful of Honkeys". Improv group that performed at the ACME Theater on La Brea in Los Angeles. Wayne Brady performed with them for years, as did Jonathan Mangum, now a "Green Screen" regular. SEE ALSO: ACME
IH&H: "Improv Heaven and Hell". A similar program to WLiiA?, based on improv and audience suggestions, formerly on The Comedy Network in Canada. Hosted by "The Devil's Advocates". Sometimes featured Colin Mochrie.
LMAD: "Let's Make A Date". WL game.
PQ: "Party Quirks". WL game.
SC: "Second City". Popular comedy club with several locations around the US and Canada. Colin Mochrie and Ryan Stiles got their start performing with SC in Toronto.
STC: "Supertown Challenge". A short-lived game show parody on The Comedy Network in Canada, formerly hosted by Colin Mochrie.
TCN: "The Comedy Network". Network that broadcasts the UK "WLiiA?" in Canada. Also broadcast "Improv Heaven and Hell" (SEE: "IH&H").
QO: "Questions Only". WL game.
VS: "Versus". Game show hosted by Greg Proops, formerly on Comedy Central. It pitted two teams of opposites against each other answering questions both about general topics and about their two specific groups.
WBS: "(The) Wayne Brady Show". Two separate shows: a comedy/variety show, and a daytime talk show, both hosted by Wayne. The latter show won "Outstanding Talk Show" at the Daytime Emmys in 2003. Wayne also won two Daytime Emmys as "Outstanding Talk Show Host" in 2003 and 2004.
WLiiA?: "Whose Line is it Anyway?". The fabulous improv show to which this page is dedicated. Also known as: "WL".
Neon Love Chicken: A term coined by Mike McShane during a game of "Bartender" to describe a particularly bright shirt Ryan Stiles was wearing. Now used to describe any bright shirt, or just when one is being silly.
Pulling A Colin: Getting out of doing something by pretending to faint, faking a heart attack, or whatever else you can think of. Named for Colin Mochrie's countless attempts to keep from finishing his hoedowns, marches, gospels, and other singing games.
Pulling A Greg: Making the audience think you're about to swear, then changing it at the last minute. A tactic primarily used during Hoedown, i.e.:
Pulling A Ryan: Making an unusual face, such as moose antlers, fish faces, double-takes, etc. Named after Ryan Stiles' penchant for creative character faces, most prevelently in Superheroes, Let's Make A Date, and Weird Newscasters.
