Andy's Music Page

Well, as a guitarist myself, I tend to like guitar-based music, perhaps because I can better appreciate the skill involved in playing well...Some time in 93, I noticed that amongst the many new satellite channels that were soon to start broadcasting in the UK, there was CMTE...Country Music Television Europe...not being one to mock other people for being different, I made some mental note that there had to be *some* people out there who would watch it...(though I did wonder whether we'd start to get things like "The Cat-Juggling Channel" to appeal to this equally large and wrongfully neglected section of the population)...As you will no doubt have guessed by now, within a year I found myself watching it when there was nothing good on MTV, then I started to like it, and by February 94, I was a big fan...if you had told me that I would like it as much as I do now a few years ago, I probably would have humoured you for a few moments, then had you committed...

Some of my favourite singers/bands/artists are Dwight Yoakam, Shaver, Lee Roy Parnell, Sonny Landreth, Little Texas, Alan Jackson and Steve Earle...amongst others...

Elsewhere in the musical spectrum, I like Oasis, Offspring, and even the Foo Fighters (kinda)... Alan Jackson is my favourite..."Who Says You Can't Have It All", "Chattahoochee", "Tall Tall Trees"...classics...I could go on, but I notice that you're looking rather glazed at this point...

Musical update: A long-time closet fan, I finally bought 'The Way That I Am' by Martina McBride... and it's just brilliant. I'll be buying 'Wild Angels' just as soon as I can...Martina rules...(says the Americanised Englishman)

I also bought the new Dwight Yoakam CD...it was a little disappointing at first, but it's grown on me...up to 8/10 now :)

The other day I bought 'Van Halen I' by, oddly enough, Van Halen. I was expecting it to be pretty good, but nothing outstanding. And then I heard 'Eruption'...I have been playing the guitar for nearly six years, and frankly, I think that I'm pretty damn good, but I was truly *stunned*. Eddie Van Halen is/was *amazing*...the man who put the 'pre-' and 'post-' in rock guitar courses...and then I bought their next three CDs for 6 pounds each...at that price, you can't go far wrong. And they're pretty good, too... The only song of theirs I knew before this was 'I Can't Stop Loving You', from the 'Balance' album...that one always makes me cry, and I have no idea why. Sad but true. I think it's a great song. As are 'Ice Cream Man', 'You Really Got Me' and 'Spanish Fly'... Here's a picture of EVH, before he cut his hair...The wacky harmonic-tapping devil!

Eddie has a new signature guitar from Peavey coming out soon...the EVH Wolfgang (his son's name)... It will retail at £1500...it will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine...

In other news, I've recently started to learn to play the piano, thanks to my friend Ash...good fun, and it's helping me learn to read music, something I should have done a long time ago, but I'm a lazy guitarist who learns everything by ear!
