The Lion of the North space station is something of a novelty in space, for more than one reason. First of all, it is funded and maintained by a central government, with some minor sponsoring from local corporations. Furthermore it is constructed of material produced by their space operating factories. The hub of the station is the result of rebuilt materials from eight orbital vehicles launched within 2 months from each other, launched from Esrange in Scandinavia, one of them being a habitation module, one a communication module, one fusion reactor, two factory modules, one science module and two undisclosed modules.
They were welded together, and started to receive shuttle and rocket loads of construction material to build the outer skin. The docking ring was the next project, adding a spin to the whole station so that a nominal gravity of 0.7 G could be reached. Soon thereafter, the construction of a lunar explorer and colony pods for the Lunar Viking base in the sea of Tranquility on the moon.
The Space station served as model for the Lunar Orbital, the Alpha station. This is a smaller version, with only a limited habitation module and cargo handling facility. The Alpha station is in geo - synchronous orbit above Lunarbase Viking, and serves as a transit and unloading stop for Lunar engineers.
