After the lunar project had started, the discovery of the Tachyon chrystals on Mars made it important to send a probe to investigate and if possible, harvest the chrystals. A manned mission was cancelled due to the problems of the long distance to a base, so scientists developed a solution dealing with automated harvesting and transportation drones, controlled by a Semi-Autonomous Knowbot under the name of Nidhogg.
A system similar to the one used to launch construction elements to the Lion of the North space station would allow the harvesters to dock with small cargo shuttles, to transfer the load of the harvested chrystal. The harvesters will endlessly gather the chrystals, store them, and transfer the raw chrystals to the cargo shuttles, will then start for the orbital mining platform to upload the cargo, refuel and be led down to the next available harvester by the S-K Nidhogg.
The mining platform is an orbital chrystal refinery, and the raw chrystals is stored for later transport to the factories on the space station Lion of the North. The interplanetary cargo shuttles will dock with the orbital mining platform, and pick up the load of processed chrystals, upload more fuel for the fusion reactor for the platform, and delivers yet another harvester and cargo shuttle unit for production increase.
The Interplanetary shuttles traffic the expanse between the mining platform and the Lion of the North space station at 3 month intervals. When the project has reached its peak, three such shuttles will be doing the trip back and forth. Each of the shuttles are unmanned, and controlled at each end by the docking computers. The second version of the shuttle will allow personnel to travel as well.
The Tachyon chrystal mining project has just started, with the delivery of the first three harvesters and Mars shuttles, and the Orbital mining platform. Nidhogg reports to be functioning well within the mission parameters. One interplanetary cargo shuttle is in production, and will come online in about two months.
