The history of the Scanialand movement:

To find the foundation to the modern Scanialand movement you have to look back to the first half of the 1800 century. The Scanialand movement could be said to start with the increased interest of the History of Scania and the culture during this time, which in turn could be connected with the economic boost that Scania went through after 1810 and onwards. Earlier, the economic situation in the arable Scania had been, in many ways, dreadful with a badly used agriculture. The turningpoint could be connected with the uprising of 1811 on the rural areas of Scania.

From being a rather isolated province in the deepest misery, Scania became, for a few decades, the richest Province in Sweden. At the same time, the borders towards the outside world and the old Danish motherland began to disintegrate, which could be illustrated by the strong impact 'Scandinavianism' got in Scania. It could therefore not be considered a coincedence tha Scania got something of a cultural renaissance. The increasing interest for the Scanian history and culture was manifested by the foundation of "The Society for Scanian history and description" in the year 1844. This society that was influenced by the bishop of Lund Wilhelm Faxe, could be said to have laid the foundation in the upcoming Scanialandmovement. During the 1860's, the society received a follow-up in "The society for Scanian historic remnants and history", where Martin Weibull was one of the founders. It was also during 1860 that the Scanian counties, through Martin Weibull, came to be known as Scanialand, possibly after the old name, Skaanelandede, from the Danish time. Another source of inspiration could have been the name Scania Land actually "Skånes Land". The name is found in the writings of Carl von Linné in his "Skånska resa" (Scanian Travels) and also on the Western Göinge countyflag from 1711.

The modern history of the Scanialand movement:

The movement of today grew out of dissent in Malmö when the relocated moslem and turk refugees broke out, and among several anarchistic groups, occupied the vacated city. The city had been vacated during a meltdown of the nuclear plant of Barsebäck. The displaced citizens tried to get the government to take back the city, but the regional military commander did not want to throw in any military units when the nuclear radiation bathed the city with dangerous mutating rays. When the rescue service contained the radiation leak in Barsebäck, the occupants had built a defence perimeter, and were prepared to defend it. The military commander wanted to go in, but orders from above, probably from the Military Science Council, stopped it.

The displaced original citizens wanted to get their homes and possessions back, and when the regional government turned them down, a feeling of being unwanted spread. This feeling turned into conviction, and several charismatic leaders began to work together to form a rebellious movement. To find a center point, the old Scanialand movement was ressurected. They became the political branch of the movement, while the Snapphane units became the militant branch.

When they had gained some members, and infiltrated local political and military functions, they sprung the rebellion upon the unprepared central government. Before long, most of Scania, and parts of Halland and Blekinge was 'liberated' by the new Scanian government. ScanFed troops fought them to a standstill, and has begun to press them back towards the proclaimed Capitol, Kristianstad. The Scanian armed forces is said to be boosted with voluntary foreigners, mercenaries and released convicts, united in a struggle for independence. How this situation will end, we cannot even speculate, but it promises to be an exiting struggle.
