Interview with Shannon Wheeler
Too Much Coffee Man
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jon: Hi, what was Too Much Coffee Mans first appearance?
Shannon: Either the mini-comic #1 or Jab #1, they came out at about the same time.
Jon: What inspired you to write a comic about this type of character?
Shannon: The origin story in #3 is pretty much true.
Jon: How did you get started in comics?
Shannon: I wanted to draw newspaper cartoons, then I met comic book people and slowly got sucked into that world.
Jon: At what age did you decide to become an artist? Why?
Shannon: I wanted to draw comics when I was a little kid, 5th grade or so. I wanted to be artist when I was in high school. I studied Architecture in college. I've gradually moved into this whole comic book thing.
Jon: Is TMCM based on someone that you know, or just made up?
Shannon: It isn't based on any person. Maybe myself. But if it is based on me, then it's only a single aspect of myself.
Jon: When was the comic started?
Shannon: 1991
Jon: In what ways is your comic different from others?
Shannon: I try not to compare. I do the things I want to do. I'm not trying to compete with any other comics.
Jon: Why do you choose to have your own company instead of being with someone like Marvel, DC, or Image?
Shannon: When I started it was the only option I had. Now I guess it's just habit.
Jon: Do you have any future plans to merge with a company like Jeff Smith did?
Shannon: I have no plans like that. If I had an offer, I'd be tempted.
Jon: Do you see your comics as a very demanding book in the market?
Shannon: No. I try to make it accessable.
Jon: Thanks for the interview.
