Internet Service Providers Offering Free Internet Access
Paying too much for Internet access? How about FREE Internet access?
You can get a free connection to the Internet if you know where to
look. The catch? Well, advertisements. Most of these services run
ads on your screen to pay for the free service. Hey, it's sort of
like America On Line, without having to pay $21.95 a month!
These freebies are for the U.S. only. In England, America On Line has
teamed up with a British phone company to bring free Internet
access to England. There are other European only sites that will
give free access as well. In the U.S. Free Internet Access is rare.
Free Internet access from DotNow
dotNow! offers totally free internet dialup access to customers in
hundreds of US cities -- totally free! They have over 1100 points of
presence (POPs) in all 50 states, with over 90% penetration. dotNow!
lets nearly everyone in the US get what they need on the Internet
without a single charge to you!
ISDN is an older technology that delivers high speed digital access. With
speeds of 128K, ISDN is often used by businesses that want their network
connected to the Internet. The disadvantages of this type of connection
is that it is more expensive and requires a special digital phone line
be installed along with a special ISDN modem just for the ISDN connection.
DSL or Digital Subscriber Line is a newer way of connecting to the Internet.
Using an existing phone line, the company adds a special jack and connects
a special DSL modem to it. You can fax, make phone calls, even dial up
another computer while using your DSL line to surf the web. Your computer
does not tie up the phone line like the traditional modem does. This is
an ideal solution for people with only one phone line.
The best part about a DSL phone line, such as the one I have here in my
office, is that it is up to 50 times faster than a standard 56k modem.
I can download files in seconds, instead of twenty minutes. For a few
extra dollars one can buy a hub and cables and connect other computers to
the same line. In my office two of us surf the web while a third can use
the laptop to browse web sites, all off of the same DSL line. The speed
is so fast, one can't tell the difference when one, two or more people are
using the connection. No local area network (LAN) or server is needed.
Free DSL from the Broadband Digital Group
Connect to the Internet at up to 50 times faster than a 56K modem, FREE!
Get a free DSL (digital subscriber line) connection, FREE Internet access
and a FREE DSL modem. Is it really free? Yes, it is free. Yes there is a catch.
Like all of the free Internet access sites we have visited, this one has a
small bar that displays ads. You can move the bar around the screen, but
you can't get rid of it. A small price to pay to get free Internet access
AND a free DSL connection. Just register with the company, they'll set up
the appointment to have your home or office installed with the DSL line.
Free Web Pages
Many web sites offer free web pages to anyone that wants them. The
type of site varies. Some are family oriented and designed to be
a private place, just for family and friends. You can post pictures
chat with family members on line, post a group calendar and just
build a place for your whole family, where ever they might live, to
keep in touch. Other sites have communities where people sharing the
same interests as you, can build personal home pages and get involved
in the type of activities that are close to your heart. Other sites
simply provide you with space to build your own home page, any way you
want it.
Are they really free? Yes. They have pop up windows that display ads.
These ads keep the web pages free. Some have a premium service that
will allow you to pay a small fee and not have pop up ads on your home
page. Geocities is one such site. Free with pop up ads, or no ads for
$4.95 a month. Here are a few places to get free web pages.
