This page is for the lighter side of entertainment, whether it's film, print, or video!
There are a number of entertainment classics which never seem to disappear. Most of the classic TV shows listed below could not be made today, because times have changed. Either they would not have enough "shock" value, or they would be politically incorrect. Technology has improved so that special effects are amazing, and yet the basic honest humor of the Three Stooges or the Pink Panther movies still makes people laugh. Morals and values, have changed tremendously! We can never go back, but we can enjoy what we already have!
Things don't have to be old to be on this page, just humorous, unique, and on the lighter side. They also need that extra something that has made, or will make them a classic!
I am a fan of the Three Stooges, the Pink Panther movies (Peter Sellers), Douglas Adams, particularly the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, and some of the older, fun TV shows like The Honeymooners. Many of the Looney Tunes cartoons definitely belong in the classics category!
The Andy Griffith Show, I Love Lucy, and Gilligan's Island have large numbers of devoted fans. Gilligan's Island has aired continuously longer than any other TV show, and Lucy and Andy Griffith aren't far behind! Those 3 titles used to be linked to some good webpages, but they have diasappeared. At least the shows haven't disappeared! They are still easy to find locally and on cable in most areas. I will reinstall the links as soon as I find something good to link to.
Many of the above shows have earlier versions which were filmed in Black and White. The Honeymooners TV show is a good example. For some reason, these are the best shows, the ones that made them classics.
It's true that Kingfish and Andy were not exactly role models! However, most of the characters in the comedy shows listed above depicted people who were noticeably short in the brains department; that was part of the humor.
Video rentals of a few episodes of Amos 'n' Andy are available, and if you run across one, take a look for yourself! Because of the TV ban, this show may fade into oblivion.
The Three Stooges are still on TV on many local and cable stations. Not bad after 50 years!
The Pink Panther (1963)
A Shot in the Dark (1964) **
Return of the Pink Panther (1974) **
The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) **
Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978) **
Trail of the Pink Panther (1982) (Peter Sellers died during filming)
Curse of the Pink Panther (1983) (David Niven almost died during filming)
Son of the Pink Panther (1993) (Not bad for a follow-up movie!)
In case you're not familiar with the Honeymooners TV show, It was made in the mid-1950's, and is probably one of the best situation comedies of all time! Jackie Gleason, Art Carney, Audrey Meadows, and Joyce Randolph starred, portraying a couple of good-hearted bunglers and their more sensible wives (it seems like that theme is still around today!). The Honeymooners was made in an era where it was not necessary to be "politically correct"; in fact, the term didn't exist! The best of these were the early, black & white shows. They are a true classic, and can be found on TV today.
