Following is an Instant Message Session that I had with a source from Pet Fly on May 21st, 1998. He said I could post the session to the list and at this website, and only asked that I not give out his name.
(My source has asked me to include the disclaimer that all of the things he states in this session are only what he has heard around the Pet Fly offices and are not definite statements from the producers, Paramount, UPN or anyone else.)
(One more note, those reading this page after May 27th may notice some changes from the original posting. These changes were made at the request of my source at Pet Fly.)
As I've talked with him on other occasions, we got into some non TS subjects. I have also deleted those parts with references to the deletions. Otherwise the session is intact. (I have corrected no typos. )
On with the IM:
ShelaghC: Anything encouraging to report?
Pet Fly Source: we are not canceled!
ShelaghC: Yeah, but not renewed, right?
ShelaghC: The show's in limbo?
Or have you gotten word on a production date?
Pet Fly Source: not yet. one of the creators is out of town..... (snip - irrelevant joking)
ShelaghC: You're waiting for word now from Bilson or Demeo?
Pet Fly Source: no, waiting for word from Paramount.
ShelaghC: Any idea how long UPN is going to {wait}?
ShelaghC: If we at least knew that they were planning to start filming again, it would help folks out a lot.
ShelaghC: Especially since the first episode of the new season is supposed to film in Mexico.
Pet Fly Source: we are planning to start, but don't know when. Even if UPN says they never want to see us again, Paramount can say go ahead and shoot.
ShelaghC: Really?
Is Paramount considering syndication for TS?
Pet Fly Source: they are getting ready to sell the last few seasons to syndication. btw, i think (Sentinel Too) was our best rated show ever.
ShelaghC: So this means Paramount might indeed go into first run syndication?
Pet Fly Source: if UPN dosn't want them.
ShelaghC: And is any of this stuff I can share with the list?
ShelaghC: Is this your speculation or things you've heard?
Pet Fly Source: go ahead and share.
ShelaghC: Okay. But I just need to know the answer to that last question.
ShelaghC: So first run syndication - your speculation, a rumor, or something that Paramount is actually throwing out there as a possibility.
Pet Fly Source: Based on the rumors I've heard aroung the office... The exec. at Paramount love the show. They are getting ready to syndicate the repeats. They would love to have more eps. So, first run syndication is possible, on two conditions: 1)we don't return to UPN 2) we shoot new episodes.
ShelaghC: This is basically from Paramount?
ShelaghC: Mostly people need to know where to direct their letters.
Pet Fly Source: Keep sending them to upn and paramount. Here at Pet Fly we know how much you love it, and are all ready to produce new eps.
ShelaghC: You have no idea how excited people are going to be about this.
We know.
ShelaghC: Can you give odds on Paramount going for first run syndication?
Pet Fly Source: I will e-mail you when i hear any thing definite. don't know the odds, possible if UPN never picks up.
(snip - a lot of silliness)
Pet Fly Source: actually, UPN wanted a cliffhanger that would generate a lot of response. and he [Blair] is the best loved character, therefore...
ShelaghC: No argument here!
(snip - personal questions were being asked of me)
Pet Fly Source: well, we appreciate the loyalty. I'm sure Bilson and Demeo would feel the same.
That's the IM session.
Also earlier in the day I IMmed with him and he told me that they'd received over a hundred emails overnight.
Another source told me that the conclusion of Sentinel Too was already budgeted into the 97-98 season so they already have the money in hand waiting for the go-ahead to start filming.
One last thing, I know *nothing* about the conclusion for Sentinel Too. Everything I know, I've shared with you guys here.
When he emails me with *any* kind of news, I'll relay it to the lists and post it here.
