Locklear eyes a new place on ABC 'Spin City' By Lynette Rice
Heather Locklear - who was credited with the turnaround of Fox's "Melrose Place" - could be looking to return to primetime television as early as the fall.
Sources said Locklear's representatives have been shopping the veteran television actress around town for a holding deal, with offers on the table from major television studios.
A key opportunity may come out of DreamWorks Television, where studio executives are in talks with Locklear to join its hit Michael J. Fox comedy "Spin City," sources said. DreamWorks TV would likely create a new character for Locklear, who would stay on the ABC comedy for at least one year.
DreamWorks TV could not be reached for comment.
Locklear's television credits date back to the early 1980s, when she held regular roles on "The Fall Guy," "Dynasty" and "TJ Hooker." She has appeared in several feature films - including "Wayne's World 2" and "The First Wives Club" - but her greatest accomplishment has been on Aaron Spelling's drama "Melrose Place."
Locklear infused new energy into the drama when she was cast as vixen Amanda Woodward in 199S. She remained as a special guest star on the series through its finale this season, when she also became a series co-producer. Locklear has garnered three Golden Globe nominations for her role.
"Spin City" which aired at 9 p.m. Tuesdays this season, will move to 8 p.m. Tuesdays in the fall.
Is Spin City a refuge for former Place starlets? Alyssa Milano, Courtney Thorne-Smith and Daphne Zuniga have already appeared on the show.
And where are they going to find enough screen time to satisfy Heather? With a large ensemble, its difficult to get minutes. I doubt Michael J. Fox would accept a diminished role.
And that was the other Heather in The Fall Guy, the more bodacious Heather Thomas.
