this month's best-tressed
rocklear Looks like Heather Locklear is spearheading a new trend. Or should we say Spears-heading? For a recent Tonight Show appearance the do the actress and L'Oréal spokeswoman sported looked groovy enough for a stint on MTV. "I wanted something that was cool, not polished," says hairstylist Ken Paves. He got his wish. When they finished, he says, "I said, 'Oh my God, it's Britney!'"
how she got the look Starting with towel-dried hair, Paves worked L'Oréal Studio Line Mega mousse into one-inch sections of hair. He then shook out her hair under a blow-dryer turned to its highest setting. "This 'toughs up' the cuticle of the hair and makes it look fuller," he says. Paves sprayed L'Oréal Studio Line Mega Spritz Mega-Hold hairspray, then twisted and curled each section using a 1½"-barrel curling iron. After letting hair cool in twists for 10 minutes he shook out sections. Paves sprayed her hair with L'Oréal Fast Forward hairspray, then Locklear flipped her head over while Paves used a blow-dryer to make hair look more tousled.
why it works "This hair is feminine and soft with a bit of a rock and roll edge," says Paves. "You can wear it with a great Chloé dress or just jeans."—Audrey Fan; reporting by Leslie Mitchell
"The hair shouldn't look too set or done. It should be like you put a bunch of mousse in it and hopped in a convertible."—hairstylist Ken Paves
