While daytime may be the king of romance, these primetime dramas have given us more to escape to during the evening. Here's our review of the best of nighttime's love stories.
MELROSE PLACE's Kyle and Amanda
Sex. Lies. Deceit. Romance. All that and more make up this perfectly matched duo, who really do bring out the best in each other. At one time so witchy, she was almost over-the-top, Amanda has mellowed over the years and proven herself capable of loving, and remaining faithful to, one man. (That's even with her ex, the handsome Dr. Peter Burns, knocking down her door.) Kyle, meanwhile, is a classic romantic hero: strong, handsome and dedicated to the woman of his dreams. Their recent troubles - his drug addiction, her tragic bid to desperately want to get pregnant - only served to make them more human in our eyes.
DAWSON'S CREEK's Joey and Dawson
We were rooting for these two from the start. They're best friends from childhood who came of age together, discovering their own sexuality while rediscovering each other at the same time. Unfotunately their romance screeched to a halt almost as soon as they shared their first kiss... and they began dating other people. We know that they will find their way back to each other. Someday.
BEVERLY HILLS 90210's Kelly and Dylan
A few years, several relationships and one ill-fated marriage haven't quenched the fire that still burns between these former high-school sweethearts. Kelly and Dylan found each other, but kept breaking up when new love interests came into the picture. Now, circumstances have brought them together yet again. Only time will tell if that fire between them will continue to smolder.
ER's Carol and Doug
She's a giving nurse with heart. He's a shoot-from-the-hip playboy doctor. In a love affair ripped right out of the pages of a Harlequin Romance, these two seemed destined to be together. But with George Clooney (Doug) leaving the show February 18, what will become of them? Well, Doug's not dying and will be making future visits. So maybe this isn't the end. At least, we hope not.
ALLY MCBEAL's John and Nelle
Take one short, stuttering nebbish. Add one sexy, hard-edged blonde. Can this unlikely of duos find happiness? Hey, in ALLY's fairy-tale world, anything is possible. John's crush on Nelle progressed to serious lust as he tried to steal a kiss under the Christmas mistletoe. As usual, he bumbled the the effort, so Nelle took the initiative and grabbed him. In the end, it seems, Nelle will have to make all the moves in this relationship. How far it goes will depend on how long he lets her wear the pants.
