From the February 16th Star:

HAIR TO STAY
Melrose Place producer Aaron Spelling - who recently announced he's pulling the plug on Melrose Place after 7 successful seasons - has finally admitted that the success of his glitzy, glamorous shows (Charlie's Angels, Dynasty, etc.) is largely linked to the actresses' appearances, especially their teased and fluffed hairstyles. "We have this crazy rule for the young ladies," says Spelling. "Do not change your hair the first year. Let the audience get used to you. Talk to us if you want to cut your hair or do something to it, but not the first year of a show. It gives the audience a chance to connect to the characters." Boy, that explains a lot - like why Amanda Woodward (Heather Locklear) had to live with black roots for a full season and why Krystle Carrington (Linda Evans) took so long to clip those annoying wings.
