NBC Stocks Pilot Season
with Locklear, Selleck

LOS ANGELES - If there is such a thing as a TV trophy wife, she probably looks a lot like Heather Locklear. "T.J. Hooker" and "Dynasty" wouldn't have been the same without her, and ever since she turned "Melrose Place" a hit for FOX it seems she can do no wrong.

In recent years, the actress has been honing her comedy chops, first with three seasons on the ABC comedy "Spin City" and in November with a three-episode guest arc on NBC's "Scrubs." All of which should make her more than ready for "Once Around the Park," the comedy pilot for NBC she has signed for about a divorced couple whose children are intent on keeping them that way.

Locklear isn't the only TV good luck charm the peacock network is considering for its stable. Tom Selleck, who breezed through the '80s as a private detective on "Magnum P.I." and then won new fans as Monica's older boyfriend on "Friends" in 1996, will star in the comedy pilot "Touch 'Em All McCall" as an ex-baseball player who returns home after his celebrity has dried up and starts coaching a homegrown farm team.

Presumably, Selleck's work in the 1992 film "Mr. Baseball" as a fading baseball star who is traded to a Japanese team will serve him well in the new endeavor.

It would be funny if Once Around the Park took Scrubs' time slot.
