LOS ANGELES - USA Networks has ended "The War Next Door" and "Manhattan, AZ." The cable network has cancelled two of its new shows after eight weeks on the air, according to Variety. The shows had drawn low ratings, which led to USA removing David Eick, senior vice president of original series development. The network hired television writer an executive producer Jim Miller to replace Eick, who will become a TV series producer for Studios USA. Miller's resume includes the series "D.C." and "Brimstone."

"War" averaged a disappointing 1.1 average rating in cable homes for seven original episodes, while "Manhattan" pulled a 0.9 average for seven originals. The two shows aired Sunday nights at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., respectively. USA has no plans to air the remaining five unaired episodes of each series, the network will likely replace the timeslot with theatrical movies.

With the recent loss of its top-rated weekly series, the WWF's "Raw Is War," USA is sure to fall from it's regular spot as first place in basic cable ratings. "Raw is War" moved over to TNN when its parent company, Viacom, outbid USA for exclusive cable rights to the WWF's various weekly wresting series.
