During the first set, Green Day, my friend Alex lost his glasses case which held his glasses and 40 dollars. Someone in the mosh pit found the case and threw it up on stage. Billy Joe Armstrong, lead singer for Green Day, picked up the case and opened it. He proceeded to put the glasses on and he started to burn the corner of one of the twenty dollar bills. He then asked the crowd who the glasses belonged to. My friend Alex crowd surfed up to the space between the stage and the mosh pit and was trying to convince the security that the glasses were his. They finally let him up on stage and he identified the items as his. Green Day finished the song, during which Alex jumped around on stage. Billy Joe told Alex to come back after the set to get a backstage pass.
After the set, we tried to get a backstage pass, but with no luck. We ended up buying a backstage pass from someone for $20 bucks. So, we took turns going back stage. When it was my turn, I went backstage and I met the Smashing Pumpkins and I got James Iha's autograph. I saw George Clinton, but didn't approach him. Eventually, I gave the pass up and my friend Brett went backstage and he met some lady and she introduced herself as Layne Staley's (lead singer for Alice in Chains) wife. (For Brett's version of his time backstage, visit here.) Well, it turns out that I ended up meeting Layne. He was attending the concert and was quite drunk. I found out that Alice in Chains had broken up because of Layne's drug addictions and they needed money for food. I bought a backstage pass from them for $5 (seen above). The last set was on and with the production pass, I couldn't see any of the bands, but at least I have a souvenir.
I ended up losing the signed ticket one day when I got in a hot tub and forgot about my wallet (stupid me). And Alice in Chains have gotten back together since then. 1
