Author's note: So, it's official...The Lion King will go on
Broadway. I will be *very* impressed if Disney can pull this off,
considering how beautiful the animation was in the film. It's a
tough act to follow. So while we're waiting for the real show to
  go on...

The Lion King on Broadway ("Come and See the Show Tonight")

[MUFASA is sitting on Pride Rock. ZAZU flies in, carrying the New York
Times]

MUFASA: Good morning, Zazu.
ZAZU: Hello, Sire! Here's the morning report. [He drops the paper at
  MUFASA'S feet. MUFASA opens it]
MUFASA: Look at this! Disney's going to put "The Lion King" on Broadway!
ZAZU: Oh, no. You can't be serious...

[The rest of "The Lion King" cast enters]

MUFASA [reading]: There are supposed to be fifteen songs, including some
new ones by Elton John, Tim Rice...and Hans Zimmer and Lebo M! Maybe
this show won't be so bad after all.
SCAR: You have no idea...
SHENZI: A Broadway musical?!
ED: HAHAHAHAHA!
SARAFINA: Hmm. I don't know. What do you think, Sarabi?
SARABI: It's not true...Tell me it's not true.
MUFASA: Now don't panic. [Thinks] What do you think the songs will be
like? The soundtrack was good, and so was "Rhythm of the Pride Lands."
TIMON: I bet Tim Rice will change some of the lyrics. Maybe to something
  more appropriate.
MUFASA: Such as...?

[Sung to the movie version of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight"]

TIMON
There's a trend that's happ'ning--

PUMBAA
What?

TIMON
First "Beauty and the Beast"--

PUMBAA
Who?

TIMON
It earned some dough and here's the bottom line:
Our power has increased.

PUMBAA
Ah.

TIMON
The great bright lights of Broadway,
There's music in the air,
And part of this dramatic atmosphere
Will be the lion's lair...

ALL
Come and see the show tonight,
We've squeezed out ev'ry drop.
The film, of course, was simply not enough,
The tie-ins never stop.

SIMBA
Lloyd Webber ought to watch out.
We're sure to beat his stats.
"The Lion King" is here and sure to have
A longer run than "Cats."

NALA
"Les Miz" is now in trouble
And running out of time.
Now Disney's here, the king of musicals,
You'd better run, Sondheim!

ALL
Come and see the show tonight,
We've squeezed out ev'ry drop.
The film, of course, was simply not enough,
The tie-ins never stop.

Come and hear the score tonight,
By Tim and Elton, too.
Better yet, Hans Zimmer's written more--
His notes will shine through...

TIMON
And if you see the show tonight,
Though it might be trash...

PUMBAA
The biggest show in Disney hist'ry

TIMON and PUMBAA
Is sure to get your cash.

[Pause]

BANZAI: Hey! The song's over, and we ain't got no stinkin' encores!
