SCAR
The theater was a place I detested,
'Twas dull, and just watched by a few.
But maybe with a zillion bucks invested,
I'll take part in Walt Disney's big coup.

I know that we're powers in attraction,
But our parks are not things that I need.
I want to create satisfaction
That even the critics will heed.

It's clear that we'll need innovation
And I know the folks who'll provide
"The Lion King"'s stage adaptation
Is a hit that just won't be denied!

So premiere the stage show of a lifetime,
Yes, premiere a sensational play!
Start shining my spotlight,
We've gotten the plot right--

SHENZI
You think it will be fine?

SCAR
Just check the marquee sign.
Watch out for stampeding
For people are reading
That we've the best theater today!
All our tickets have now disappeared--
We've premiered!

BANZAI: Yeah! We've premiered! We've just premiered. Now what?
SCAR: Now we'll sell souvenirs.
BANZAI: Why? To get rich quick?
SCAR: 'Course, fool. We need profit--we're not starving artists.
SHENZI: Great idea! Who needs to be artistic?
SHENZI & BANZAI: No art, no art! La la la la la la...
SCAR: Idiots! This show IS art!
BANZAI: But you said...
SCAR: The play is the thing! Stick with me, and our show will run forever!
SHENZI & BANZAI: Yeah! All right! Long live "The Lion King"! Long live "The Lion King"!

HYENAS
It's great that we'll soon be connected
With a show that will never shut down.

SCAR
And with all the cash we've collected
We'll soon be the toast of the town.
The future is littered with Tonys,
We'll win them and start the rampage,
For soon all my celluloid cronies
Will follow my tracks to the stage!

HYENAS
We've premiered the hit show of the century!

SCAR
We've premiered to spectacular praise!
