"Yuu"

MIKI:
Oh my God,
I've got crazy parents,
Never know what they're gonna do.
Now they say that they're swapping partners,
Still I can't believe--

JIN: It's true!
RUMI: It's true!
YOUJI: It's true!
CHIAYKO: It's true!
ALL FOUR: It's true!

[Scene: MIKI at breakfast]

MIKI:
I've got four parents and a new stepbrother,
A situation weird but true.
We all live in one big house
With the current and ex-spouse.
It's a really zany home--       [YUU appears, ready for school]

(spoken) Good morning, Yuu!

YUU: Morning, Miki. You're running late again.

MIKI: I know that! [To herself] I've just gone through the biggest upheaval
in my life, and he's so calm about everything--[YUU is heading out the
door] Wait!

YUU: Slowpoke. Miki, I'm leaving. Hurry up!

[He exits. She runs after him. Scene: the schoolyard. MIKI and YUU are
watched by their classmates]

GIRLS:
Look there he goes--that boy is cute no question.
A handsome blonde with brown eyes too.

BOYS:
And he's really good at sports--
Watch him on the tennis courts!

ALL: No denying he's an awesome guy that Yuu!

MIKI:  Hello!
MEIKO: Good day!                [They swap diaries]
GINTA: Who's that with Miki?
SATOSHI: Hello!
YUU [wary]: Good day...
GINTA: I'll kick his ass!
MIKI:  You wouldn't tell?
MEIKO: I'll keep my promise.
ALL:   And all this from one new boy in the class!

[Scene: the old library after school. SATOSHI catches MEIKO as she walks in]

SATOSHI: Hey there!

MEIKO: You again? I'm just returning a book I borrowed.

SATOSHI: Let's go on a date.

MEIKO: Well, I'm going to turn you down. Don't you have anything to do?

SATOSHI: I can escort you home.

MEIKO: That's all right. [NAMURA enters] Namura-sensei!

NAMURA: Hello! [Sees SATOSHI] You both have a safe trip home. [He exits.
MEIKO, disappointed, turns to the smiling SATOSHI]

MEIKO: What are you looking at?

SATOSHI: That gorgeous hair, exquisite complexion, lovely face, those
beautiful eyes...[Notices her book] If you like stories that much, then
write one!

MEIKO: But I--

SATOSHI: I insist!

MEIKO: Well, maybe.

SATOSHI: I'd like it very much!

[Scene: ARIMI sees MIKI and YUU and drags GINTA aside]

ARIMI:
Look there he goes--that guy is my old boyfriend.
I want him back and here's your cue:
Now let's say that we're a pair.

GINTA: Say, you might have something there--

BOTH: What a problem for the rest of us is Yuu!

[MIKI looks at YUU thoughtfully]

MIKI:
Oh, isn't this confusing?
I can feel my heart begin to race.
Yuu can be sweet and charming,
But I don't know how he can maintain that poker face.

[SUZU and SATOSHI enter. SUZU looks at MIKI with a disappointed expression
on her face]

SUZU:
I thought his girlfriend would be quite a beauty,
Now why she's not I have no clue.
He's perfection, nothing less--

SATOSHI [slyly]:
Even when he wears a dress
He looks better than the rest of us.

ALL:
He's why the girls will raise a fuss
And all the boys will praise or cuss
That Yuu!

[ROKUTANDA barges in on the group and confronts GINTA and YUU]

ROKUTANDA: Hey, we've got something to settle. I challenge you to beat the
greatest _______(tennis player, salesman, skier) in the whole world!

GINTA & YUU: Oh, no.

ROKUTANDA: No man alive stands a chance against me...hehehe...Or one girl
for that matter. [Looks at ARIMI]

ARIMI: Rokutanda, I've got my sights set on that one. [She pauses and
points at GINTA. YUU goes to MIKI]

ROKUTANDA: What?! My very own cousin?!

ARIMI: He's the one. The lucky guy I'm going to marry.

ROKUTANDA: ARIMI!!

ARIMI: You're not taking this very well.

ROKUTANDA: ARIMI!!!

GINTA [furious]: Hey, I'm *your* cousin. And don't I deserve the best?

ROKUTANDA [thinks]: Well, I guess, maybe you do...

[And just when you think everything's resolved...KEI, MICHAEL, ANJU, and
JINNY enter, raising the stakes again]

KEI & MICHAEL:
Right from the moment when I met her, saw her,
I said, "That girl is mine to woo."
She would love me, I daresay,
But there's someone in the way--
So I'm making plans to beat my rival Yuu!

ANJU & JINNY:
Look there he goes!
I'd like to date him!

JINNY: He's such a hunk!
ANJU:  He's a dear friend!

ANJU & JINNY:
But I'm afraid
My chances are slim.
He's destined for another in the end!

[The following lines can be reassigned to various characters depending on
the particular episode and situation]

YUU:  Hello!
GINTA:  Good day!
SATOSHI:  What's up?
MEIKO:  Not much.
MIKI:  I feel so shaken...
SATOSHI:  A lovely face!
ARIMI:  Oh no!
GINTA:  You jerk!
ROKUTANDA:  Bad luck!
MIKI:  My fault!
YUU:  We've had some strife.
MEIKO:  Please let me go!
MIKI:  I thought...
YUU:  You mean...
MIKI:  ...I knew.
YUU:  ...I'm wrong?
PARENTS:  You are mistaken!
YUU:  Well, maybe so...

MIKI: What happens next in my confusing life?

ALL:
Just watch and see if she'll become Yuu's wife!

Look there he goes--that boy who's dating Miki
Despite the troubles they go through.
It's a love that just won't fade,
Bittersweet like marmalade.
So let's see how all the plots unfurl,
This series takes us on a whirl
With Miki as our leading girl
And Yuu!
