Yesterday, the NRS K'Bec gaming group had a little game, Cascor vs Dilgar.
Cascor (2908 pts):
Pierre Bourbonnais: 1 Qoricc, 1 flight of Calaq, 3 flights of Caccar.
Laurent Leclerc: 1 Qoricc, 1 flight of Calaq, 3 flights of Caccar.
Dilgar (~3000 pts)
Benoit Tessier: 1 Leskrati Jumpcruiser, 1 Garasoch Heavy Carrier, 1
Targath Attack Cruiser
Nicolas Auclair Tremblay: 4 flight of Thorum Dartfighter.
With all modification for January 2231.
Strategy: The Dilgar knew that we (the Cascor) would come with a large number of fighters (that's not difficult to know!). They brought ship with very good anti-fighter defense (the very few that got one!). The Cascor got two good destroyers, with a lot of fighter thinking that those two ship would get kill quite fast. The Qoricc don't have too much structure.
Placement: Each fleet began at a range of 30 hexes, the Cascor at a speed of 6 and the Dilgar at 3. Dilgar fighter had a speed of 6 as the Cascor.
Turn 1:
Dilgar force go straight ahead same speed while one Cascor destroyer
centerline the Targath and the other get in position to fire 3 Ionic Lasers.
The Calaq accelerate to speed 9 while the Caccar get to speed 12. The
Thorum stay at 6. The Targath fire all weapons to the Qoricc who centerline
him, destroying both retros. Both Qoricc fire all they have at the Targath,
one Attack Cruiser down!
Turn 2:
Both Qoricc continue to close, all EW in CC. The same for both
Dilgar capital ships. Two flights of Thorum close to the first Qoricc, a
third flights get in position to attack the second Qoricc while the last
Thorum engage a flight of Calaq. Both Calaq close to the Leskrati while all
Caccar attack the Dilgar fighters. Something like 14 Thorum Dartfighters
were kill in that single turn, they managed to destroy the side thruster of
one Qoricc and some forward weapons on the second. 4 Caccar are destroy due
to Scatter Pulsar fire from the Leskrati and one or two Calaq are kill
thanks to the Thorum.
Turn 3:
Dilgar cap continue on their way, while their fighters harrass their
Cascor counterpart. One Qoricc centerline the Garasoch while the other
engage the Leskrati. Both flights of Calaq find their way on the rear
section of the Leskrati with some support of the Caccar. One Qoricc lose
its forward structure due to the Garasoch while it remove the front
structure and some primairy damage of it attacker. The second Qoricc remove
the forward structure of the Leskrati and heavily damage the primairy
section, further damage are inflicted to the same ship from the Calaq in its
rear but the Jumpcruiser will finally die beacuse of a Caccar. Many Caccar
are kill that turn (more than 20!) mainly because of the Scatter Pulsar.
The game is call out at that turn, the Dilgar were utterly defeated (Total
victory for the Cascor!).
Conclusion:
Cascor in general seem to be too powerful, their weapons fire every
other turn at most and the Bolter fire twice per turn. Their range
penalties is incredible, and do not let any chance to the Dilgar. Some of
their weapons should be downgraded (Ion Bolter range penaltie -1/hex). The
quantity of structure if fair and correct when you compare with their other
ability.
Qoricc: Either it is worth more than 500 pts, or 5 Ionic Lasers is too much, I could have win that game only with those two Qoriccs. The number of structure block is okay, the antifighter defense is fair too. You could raise the point value to 580 pts or simply remove two ionic lasers or take two side ionic lasers and turn them aft, it would give it excellent all around firepower without making it the monster it is right now.
Calaq: It is correct as it is, we have not use them too much but for 60 pts its fair.
Caccar: Well, we have a little paradox here! The fighter is currently worth 33 pts (Dilgar Playtest Page) and can't be rated any higher because of its inability to soak any kind of damage. But its impressive manoeuvrability and double ionizer make it better than the Tiqincc. I do not see any reason to use Tiqincc when I can put the same amount of firepower, with better manoeuvrability and for a lower cost. The added structure and armor of the Tiqincc is far from overcoming these avantage. The Caccar are the main reason why the Dilgar lost its fighter! From that point, their is two solution: raise its value to ~38 pts (I don't like that one!) or reduce the number of ionizer to one. With one ionizer, 18 thrust and a value of ~27 pts, the Caccar will still be use in large number but the Cascor player will have reason to put Tiqincc on the board.
Dilgar: In that game, none of the Dilgar players made any critical tactical error, they lost badly. They shouldn't have lost that much since its was an equal point game. Their are at least two main reasons for this, first they do not soak enough damage, I know this is one of their weakness but right now their are no way to explain how the Dilgar killed any and all League ship they encountered. They would need at least a small increase in structure box (something like 10%) but to make sure they can survive, put an additionnal point of armor on any and all systems and structure of all ship, with a 10% raising in BPV of the ship. The second reason is the quality and number of weapons on Dilgar ship: they are suppose to field overgunned ship, many ship of the league race hold nearly as many weapons and frequently they are better. They lack all around defensive weapons (like Scatter pulse), and some of their eavy weapons either need upgrade or more have to be installed on Dilgar ship. Right now, their strenght (larger number of weapons) do not overcome their weakness (lack of structure).
Targath: As I understand it, it is the main ship of the Dilgar fleet, the one behind all their success, and it suck! Most of the time, it will lose its forward structure the turn where its opponent open fire and the quantity of damage it can project is ridiculous compare to other. I would put another pair of Heavy Bolters on the front structure and maybe some more defensive weapons.
All other Dilgar ship of that game: Leskrati, Garasoch, Thorum performed well considering the situation.
