Scenario: In the weeks leading up to the invasion of the Alacan system the Dilgar sent several recon forces into the Alacan system to test the local defenses. These forces struck at supply and shipping lines. The Alacan command assumed that a new band of particularly successful raiders had begun operating at the fringes of their system and sent a same force to investigate.

Alacan: 3 Tacomi Police Cutters
Dilgar: 2 Ochlavita, w.out pulsar refits (we replaced the Point Pulsars with Med. Pulsars and the Scatter Pulsars with Light Bolters).

Turn 1:
Both sides close, all defensive. The Alacans moving carefully at speed 6, the Dilgar at a somewhat livelier speed 9.

Turn 2:
The Dilgar attack, both Ochlavita unloading with Med Lasers and 2 of their 4 Med Bolters, concentrating their fire on a single police cutter. The Alacan ship is completely mauled, but survives with a few girders and bolts holding it together.

Turn 3:
The Dilgar slow to speed 6 (a damn maneuverable speed for an Och lavita) and swing into the center of the Alacan force. The Alacans for their part close to knife fighting range (0-2 hexes) and unload. However their inexperienced gunners panic in a true fight and very few shots hit their mark. The Dilgar divide their Bolter fire between the mauled cutter (which dies in a fiery reactor explosion) and another foolish enough to close to range 0, where the lack of a lock-on was irrelevant (stripping off less then half of it's structure and damaging it's engine)

Turn 4:
The Dilgar ships continue to sweep around with the two surviving Alacan ships chasing behind. The Alacan gunners seem to suddenly realize the seriousness of the situation and their fire stripped off all three main thrusters on one of the Ochlavita's. The Dilgar, for their part, continue to concentrate fire, now at the second wounded police cutter. A lucking hit destroyed the C&C on the Alacan ship, rendering the rest of the hail of bolter fire moot.

Turn 5:
The lamed Ochlavita begins to pivot (planning to pivot around and use it's retro thrusters for turning). The other Ochlavita turns to chase down the last Alacan ship, which dies as a medium laser rakes across C&C.

Outcome:
3 Alacan ships dead, 1 Ochlavita sans main thrusters, 1 Ochlavita with damage to forward weapons (no criticals) and a destroyed retro.

Analysis and comments:
OK, two C&C hits is luck, but given how damaged the first Alacan ship I expect the Dilgar would have killed the other two in only a few more turns without loosing a ship (though likely with much more serious damage). The two Ochlavita, working together and concentrating fire, were deadly ships. We can't decide if the Alacan are over pointed or if the retro-fit Ochlavita's were underpointed (we figured each at 440 after downgrading the weapons, which technically gave the Alacan a 20 point advantage... yeah right). The Alacans rolled very badly (missing a range 0 with more then one shot) and when they did hit it was the LPBs that did most of the serious damage. The one laser cutter that did hit managed to scratch a few systems, but the damage bonus was not enough to do any critical hits on the new crit tables.
Finally, in retro-fitting the Ochlavita, we noticed that the Medium and Light Bolters have more structure (and in the case of the Med Bolters more armor) then the pulsars they replaced, forcing us to draw in extra boxes. We think it would be nice if both systems (pulsar and bolter) had the same number of structure boxes to make conversions like this easier. That or include SCS's for the older variants of the ships.

Next up: 3 retrofit Ochlavitas vs 2 Brakiri Avoikis (to see if the points of the Ochlavitas really are off)
