Pre New Mutants
There isn't a lot known about Rahne's childhood before she met Moira MacTaggert, but what little we do know isn't nice.
We know that her mother died when she was VERY young, and she came into the care of Rev. Craig.
He raised her in the strictest, most Fundamental Christian method possible, indoctrinating her into the ways he saw as right.
We also know he hated her (Exc.94), ever before her powers developed.
It all came to a head when she manifested her mutancy, Rev. Craig called her 'Devil Child' and tried to have her burnt at the stake (to save her soul, of course).
A lynch mob led by him chased her over the highlands, until she ran into Moira MacTaggert.
MacTaggert put herself between the mob and Rahne, and said she was under her protection, forcing Rev. Craig to grudgingly abandon his lynching.
Moira made herself Rahne's legal Guardian, and took her to Charles Xavier, for help in controling and using her powers.
The saddest thing about her childhood is that it is highly likely that Rev. Craig is he father, and all his hate toward her is because she always reminded him of his affair with her mother.
The New Mutants
Rahne was the one of the first two New Mutants, along with Xi'an Coy Mahn(Karma).
In Rahne's opinion coming to Xavier's school, were "either the best thing, or the worst thing, to happen to her"(NM GN), and originally she viewed her mutant gift as a curse from Satan, an opinion that soon left her.
Along with Danielle Moonstar(Psyche, later Mirage), Roberto DaCosta(Sunspot) and Samuel Guthrie (Cannonball), Karma and Wolfsbane formed the original line-up of the New Mutants.
Rahne and Dani soon became the very closest of friends, largely do to the psi-link they shared, and the two pretty soon became inseperable.
With the New Mutants, Rahne had numerous adventures, a lot of them unintentional or without permission.
Whilst with the New Mutants she say more and went more places than most only dream. She has been around the world, to Atlantis, to other galaxies, Asgard (and had a love affair with a 'Wolf Prince' - the two are still believed to love each other), and got flung through Time more than once.
There have however also been great tragedies, the entire team was slaughtered by the Beyonder, only to be resurrected later with severe mental trauma and a loss of all their training.
However, the events of Genosha aside, the most harrowing event in Rahne's life was Doug Ramsey's sacrifice to save her life from the Animator, she still blames herself for him dying.
Genosha and the X-Tinction Agenda
The Genoshan X-tinction Agenda was probably the biggest single turning point in her life, the hideous treatment and enslavement inflicted upon her by the Genoshans and Cameron Hodge will most likely haunte her until the day she dies.
She was on of the five kids kidnapped by Magistrates form the ground of the Mansion, and though they managed to escape, she went back to save Warlock's life, and failed.
Because of this meddling, Hodge reserved a special punishment for her, while Storm was turned into a special mutate to be used as a weapon against Hodge, Rahne underwent the full process, with the exception that all her memories were left intact and her free will utterly buried.
This was meant to make her enslavement all the more painful, but It also made her a dangerous weapon, and when she regained her free will, she decided that she was going to personally cause Hodge to rue the day he had been born.
Since then she has had a deep-rooted and vicious hatred of Hodge.
However, regaining her free will was not enough, as Rahne was left unable to return to a human form without reverting to the mindless state of a mutate.
This lead to a lot of experimentation and practice in control of her abilities so as "get as close to human as possible without reverting do a docile featherbrain".
X-Factor
Rahne was one of the original members of the Government-run X-Factor, along with Havok, Polaris, Madrox, Quicksilver and Strong Guy.
If truth be told, the real reason Rahne joined X-Factor was because of her 'crush' on Alex Summers (Havok).
It only turned out later that this was merely a side effect of the master/slave she was bonded to him in.
Because of this 'crush' rather tensions existed between her and Lorna Dane(Polaris), who was very much involved with Alex, until the real cause of the 'crush' was found.
However, the team eventually were able to work together without problems.
With X-Factor, Rahne became very much a publically known mutant, and, probably through the press, her secret identity becane no longer a secret(same for all of X-Factor).
The jobs with X-Factor were rather more down-to-earth than with the New Mutants - fighting mutants criminals like he MLF, Mr Sinister and his Nasty Boys, Helle's Belles, Haven etc., rogue govenment departments eg.Shadowforce and assisting anywhere that superpowered muscle was needed eg.the X-Patriots, Trans-Sabal.
Unfortunately, over time, Rahne's bond with Alex became a problem, she was unable to be treatment for it on Muir Isle, because it physically hurt for her to be seperated from him, and she became more and more savage, feeding off Alex's Id, his darker emotions, and acting them out.
This was partially reduced by her growing friendship with Guido, luckily she was helped by Haven curing her of the Genoshan programming.
There was also sadness and anguish in her time with X-Factor, the worst being Jamie Madrox's death from a combination of the Legacy Virus and Haven's attempts to cure him of it.
But there was also the shock in seeing Douglock - who appeared to be an unpleasant caricature of Doug Ramsey and Warlock, both of whom died after she failed to save them, in the sadness at the death of Illyana Rasputin, ex-teammate, and her own actions in Trans-Sabal.
This all culminated in Guido's near-fatal heart attack, and finding out that Moira had contracted the Legacy Virus.
These drove her away from X-Factor, to Excalibur to be with her foster-mother, a good thing, because she wouldn't want to be a part of X-Factor anymore, with convicted criminals like Mystique and Sabertooth among it's members.
Excalibur
Now that Rahne is back home on Muir, she has been able to lay some of her ghosts to rest.
She finally challenged Rev. Craig, showing him that she knew the truth behind his hatred, "[her] own firey torch", and being able to see Douglock as his own individual, that merely looks like Doug Ramsey.
But she has had dreams broken here as well, seeing what Colossus did to Pete Wisdom in a jealous rage destroyed some of her ideas of him being an inherantly good man.
Her time with Excalibur has been short so far, but in what she has done in her time with them, and her previous teams, she has shown the potential to have a truely great future.
