Smalltown Poets "Listen Closely"
Smalltown Poets has released their sophomore album and sound even better than their breakthrough first effort. These guys have a sound that echoes their name - simple, insightful, and certainly originals. Highlights include the urging sound of "Call Me Christian" and the heartfelt cry for "Anything Genuine". I highly recommend this album if you're into unconventional, deeper lyrics that actually require a little thought. I also recommend this album to anyone who likes acoustic music, because these guys are among the best in that category.

| Rebecca St. James "Pray"
Rebecca gets better and better with every new project. This time around, she has become clearly the top alternative female voice in Christian Music today. Progressing from a first album filled with pop sounds and synthesizers, she has now become edgy and daring with her vocals and created a whole new genre of music that others are already following. This album is a sure bet for anyone that enjoys great vocals over raw, high-energy riffs.

Three Crosses "Skinny Flowers"
Three Crosses is back with their third album, and they seem to be committed to sticking to the same style of music that got them on the map in 1995. Bringing an edgy, down-home, old-fashioned rock flavor into the Christian music industry is the role these guys have played in the past, and they continue to do so. A generous compilation of 16 new songs is on this album. This is truly one of my favorite groups, and if you're a rock fan, I encourage you to give them a try.

dcTalk "Supernatural"
dcTalk has continued to please its' huge fanbase with yet another smash hit album. The newest release is based around the supernatural prescence and qualities of God. This album goes beyond just the hit title track. There is a great variety in the types of music that are represented on this album, from pop/rock to ballads to alternative to even a brief diversion into ska music. dcTalk never seems to get old, and I don't foresee their fans outgrowing their music anytime soon. As the industry changes, dcTalk always manages to adjust, without losing their God-focus.

Newsboys "Step Up to the Microphone"
The Australian group Newsboys continues to pound out hit albums, and their newest one is probably their best one yet. It's been a challenge to turn on a Christian radio station the past few months without hearing one of their new hits. From the funky title track to the incredible ballad "Entertaining Angels", this is an all-around fun album to listen to. The guys said they went back to basics and let their hearts take over the song-writing this time around, and it certainly shows.

100 Portraits with Waterdeep "Enter the Worship Circle"
The newest project from independent group 100 Portraits is joint effort with fellow independent Waterdeep. They have joined forces to produce a long-awaited album of original praise and worship songs, which is a dramatic departure from their unusually unique alternative music. After hearing a few of these songs live in concert, I can hardly wait to get my hands on the new album. It is released January 30th, and is available to purchase at 100 Portraits' official website.

All Star United "International Anthems for the Human Race"
This British pop/rock group exploded onto the scene two years ago with their first self-titled album. This time around, they are seeking to establish their names among the elite Alternative/Rock bands in the industry. While I have yet to actually purchase the new album, I feel safe in recommending it because of live performances I heard this summer. They have some great new music, but I must warn you - don't listen to this album unless you're willing to get your feet moving!

Chris Rice "Past the Edges"
Chris continues to deliver some of the most down-to-earth, real music around the industry with his latest release. Based on a light acoustic sound, Chris's voice flows beautifully over the music. Chris is truly one of the nicest guys in all of Christian music (if not the world!), and his music reflects his gently, thoughtful personality. Always a concert favorite, he even lets loose and has some fun on a couple of tracks.

Rich Mullins "The Jesus Record"
The legacy of Rich Mullins and his ministry live on long after his death. His fatal automoblile accident may have cost him his life, but it opened the public eye on his incredible life and his heartfelt music ministry. This two-disc album is his final contribution to Christian Music: on one disc is his own demos of all new music, and on the other is his Ragamuffin Band's performance of his hit songs.
