the false prophet

Keanu has made waves recently for foregoing his acting career to play in his rock group, Dogstar. Does that name sound familiar? Perhaps you were thinking of the star that fell to earth in Revelations 9 and began the locust plague. Or perhaps you remember Isiah 14:12, that reads How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! Regardless of the name, it is no coincidence that the Anti-Christ would want to become involved in popular music. Radio reaches the most remote areas of the world, where people do not know the name 'Hollywood'. And in Revelations as well as the rest of the Bible, music has been a popular form of communication and/or warning. The beast would certainly like to emulate that.

But more than just music-making, the rock group Dogstar probably represents false prophet, the third part of the Unholy Trinity (along with the Devil and the Anti-Christ). Revelations 13 explains that another beast rose out of the earth; it had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon (v. 11). The group Dogstar features two other musicians with Keanu. Certainly three attractive young men who make loud noise could be equated with lamb that speaks like a dragon. It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence, and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wound was healed (v. 12). Can anybody forget the reaction the Beatles evoked from their fans? No matter how big a star a movie actor becomes, the medium doesn't allow him the immediate contact to his converts that a rock star has at a concert. Certainly, this was Keanu's intention when he decided to forgo the lush lifestyle of Hollywood for the hectic life of a touring musician. And as long as he continues to make music, the ears of the faithful are in jeopardy.
