I discovered this item on eBay and I was overwhelmed
by the contents within. The A Better Tomorrow Collector's Edition is manufactured
in Japan and the Japanese definitely know their stuff. This is the Holy
Grail for all A Better Tomorrow aficionados.
Within the black slipcase is the highly coveted soundtrack
for A Better Tomorrow I and II by Joseph Koo. 28 score tracks of A Better
Tomorrow goodness which simply command repeat listening. The tracks listing
are in Japanese but that shouldn't frustrate anyone. The music is all too familiar
and one can readily identify scenes from the movies that went with it. (in Japanese with some English translations) is found
in the
section. I remember a number of people asking me where they could buy the soundtrack
and I would simply tell them that it didn't exist. How wrong I was then but how
fortunate for fans now.
Another
coveted item is a set of 16 reproduction lobbycards from A Better Tomorrow
printed on nice glossy cards. Cool pictures! What more can I say? Another pleasant
item is a reproduction childhood photo of Mark and Ken, seen in A Better Tomorrow
II where the retired forger reveals to Ti Lung about Mark's twin brother, Ken.
The last item is a 'super-deformed' plastic figurine
of Brother Mark (or Ken, depending on how you look at it). What is cool about
this figure is an alternate pose, cleverly concealed by the trenchcoat. Leave
the trenchcoat on, you get the classic dual pistol pose. Take the trenchcoat off,
you get Mark striking another cool pose with both hands in the pockets. The sculpturing
is great and the likeness is there. Wished it came with a miniature tooth-pick!
Now for the million dollar questions: How much is it?
Where can I buy it? Honestly, I don't know of any place else other than
where you can find this item. It was on auction for US$79. Alternatively, I could
buy it immediately for US$99. Without hesitation, I chose the latter. Desperate,
or even foolish you may say but I was not taking chances. This item is still available
now and then. Look under this seller i.d. on eBay: DEELU. The item will be labelled
as "John Woo/Chow Yun Fat Collector's Set". If you're a true fan, go
get yours today!
