Reverse Sexism In Comics?

What is reverse sexism, you may be asking right now, so I shall give you a definition. As sexism has often wrongly been defined as just males participating in demeaning treatment based on gender towards females, I have spawned the term of "reverse sexism" to define females participating in demeaning treatment based on gender towards males.

What I feel is going on is that while the wrongs being done to female heroes (heroines) has not been overlooked, the recent Birds of Prey: Manhunt miniseries has sparked controversy in many areas both online and off.

In Birds of Prey, female heroes Huntress, Black Canary, Oracle, and Catwoman fight all over the world, particularly against men. The four heroines often will strike at the males for no reason but to hurt them, even if they had done something "evil." This may not seem significant to you, so let's reverse the situation and take a look at it. Say four male heroes find an "evil" woman, and start hitting her repeatedly even after resistance is dropped. Many people would say that this is wrong, but no one says a thing if it involves a woman endlessly striking a man, much less an "evil" man.

This sort of sexism is not confined to the world of comics. Recently, a middle-aged woman was convicted of having a sexual relationship with a 14 year old boy. She had enticed the boy, and had participated in sexual interaction on a repeated basis. This woman was found guilty, but was only sentenced to 6 years in prison. Now let us reverse the genders. Say a middle-aged man had a sexual relationship, even with consent, with a 14 year old girl. In our society, this man would be sentenced to close to life in prison. Now I ask you, why should gender mean anything in crime? I am not saying the man should receive less time, I am saying that the woman should receive more than a measly six year sentence. This would be a just and fair sentence, and prove that our judicial system isn't blind.

So in Birds of Prey, the four heroines should face controversy as to their actions, as four male heroes would if they had done what Catwoman, Black Canary, and Huntress had physically done (Oracle was overlooking the operation, as she is unable to walk from the events in the fantastic graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke). I know female writers would have a field day if Batman unstoppably striked Catwoman even after resistance would dropped, so comic book writers rarely do that. Why should it be any different if Supergirl was repeatedly hitting a male mugger?

The industry should take a look at what it is doing. It is partially towards treating females in comics in the right light (But stop the super-thongs, please. No woman would fight in something as uncomfortable as that. Except for Pamela Lee, of course.) The industry should start treating males in the correct manner, as men have feelings and rights too.

I suggest you take a look at what is going on, and please do review my opinion for the time to come.
