See a Galaxy in 3-D!

For the first time you can see a galaxy in three dimensions. This is the galaxy NGC4565 postioned edge-on. Simply look at the two images below and cross your eyes until the two images superimpose. You will see the contours of a distant galaxy as if you were seeing it with your own eyes.

(Of course, since the galaxy is 30 million light years away and since your eyes are only inches apart, don't expect a whole lot of improvement over a flat image. Well, what did you expect?  Where in the universe were you going to position yourself so your eyes saw significantly different views of a galaxy?  Even if you could travel anywhere you wanted this is as three-dimensional as it can get if you are going to see the full width.)
