COLOR:Jodie Foster and Dennis Hopper BACKTRACK never made it to the cinemas. Instead Vestron re-edited the film without agreement of Dennis Hopper and made it available as Catchfire in Europe see (b). Dennis Hopper refused to sign as Director and used the pseudonym Alan Smithee. The US Cable-TV Channel Showtime re-edited the original version, with help of Dennis Hopper, for airing.
