Actor Jon Pertwee dies at age of 76
British actor Jon Pertwee has died at the age of 76.
An all-round entertainer with a wide range of accents and voices, he worked on stage, in films, cabaret, music hall and the circus.
He was best known for his role as Doctor Who on television from 1970 to 1974, and later played the scarecrow, Worzel Gummidge.
On radio he was a leading character in the long-running series, The Navy Lark.
Friends and colleagues have been paying tribute to the actor Jon Pertwee, who has died at the age of 76.
Comedian Ronnie Barker, who worked with Pertwee in radio comedy, said, "He was certainly the smartest looking Doctor Who, always very nattily dressed."
Broadcaster Terry Wogan remembered his sense of humour, "Last time we met he was handing round dried locusts."
Actor Richard Briers said Mr Pertwee was a "great personality, a one-off"
