I met Jon Pertwee for the first time in Aldbourne, just over three weeks ago, on the 27th April 1996. He was the most charming man I could wish to meet, and I am so glad that I got the chance to do just that.
It was all due to Jon Pertwee that my interest in Doctor Who was reawakened. Having lost interest after Survival, it was only when watching the Jon Pertwee stories on UK Gold that I rediscovered my interest in the show.
Although being too young to have seen the Jon Pertwee stories when they were originally broadcast, I would now have to say that of the Doctors I have seen he is my favourite.
At Aldbourne he came across as a lovely, friendly person, and his enthusiasm for Doctor Who was evident as he chatted about his favourite moments, his time as the Doctor and his co-stars. His close ties with his fellow guests at the convention was also clear.
He was a Doctor who thrilled young and old alike. I feel very priviliged to have met him, and I will always look back on that time with fond memories.
I believe that he is now reunited with his close friend Roger Delgado, and that they with the previous two Doctors are now sat reminiscing on times of old.
He will be greatly missed, by fans, fellow actors and his family. My sympathy goes out to them.
Jon Pertwee (1919-1996) RIP
