Scorpion II First Aired September 3/97 stardate: 51003.7

In order to make it across Borg space and make it home, Janeway forges an alliance with the Borg.  In order to make the alliance work, Janeway requests Tuvok to join her on the Borg cube to develop the nanoprobe weapon with the assistance of Borg technology, as well as a Borg representative, Seven of Nine.  When an un-expected bioship appears, the Borg cube sacrifices itself to save Voyager, but not before several Borg drones, Janeway and Tuvok are beamed to Voyager.  It is then up to Commander Chakotay, who never agreed with Janeway's plan, to carry out the alliance when Janeway is critically injured and unable to return to duty.

Outcome:  Seven of Nine joins the crew, Species 8472 defeated.


The Gift First Aired September 10/97 stardate: N/A

Kes's telepathic abilities begin to develop, following her telepathic communications with Species 8472 several days before hand.  As Kes continues to explore her abilities, she soon discovers an alternate dimension, a plane of higher existance.  However, when she begins to explore this phenomenon, she begins to "resonate", and causes the ship extensive damage.  Not willing to stop using her telepathic abilities, Kes decides to leave Voyager and enter this new plane of existance.

Meanwhile, Captain Janeway tries to find the human hidden underneath layers of Borg circuitry that is Seven of Nine.

Outcome:  Voyager gets thrown 9.5 years closer to home.  Assuming they were 75,000 light years from Earth, and they had traveled 3,000 light years in three years, they are now only 62,500 light years from Earth (or 62.5 years instead of 75 years).  Kes leaves the show.

As B'Elanna's Day of Honour approaches, she is approached with many difficulties that includes a former Borg, Seven of Nine, wishing to work in Engineering.  While testing a new Transwarp technology, Voyager is forced to dump their warp core, and B'Elanna and Tom are sent to recover it.  Upon finding the core, the Cataati, a race devastated by the Borg, have laid claims to the core.  When attempting to retrieve it, the shuttle is destroyed and B'Elanna and Tom are forced to wait for rescue in EVA suits as they hang in space.

Outcome:  Tom and B'Elanna reveal their feelings for one another.

While performing a standard planet survey, Chakotay's shuttlecraft crashes and he is caught in the middle of the alien war.  When the people he fights with reminds him of the Maquis, Chakotay joins their side and the fighting.  However, Chakotay does not realize that he has joined the side of the aggressors, and has difficulty accepting it after developing feelings of hatred for the race he is fighting.

Voyager receives a distress signal from a vessel, and it's only occupant appears to be a holographic sanitation program.  An excited Doctor soon joins the away team to rescue the hologram, as it is the first of his kind found in the Delta Quadrant.  However, upon finding the sanitation program, Torres soon learns that this program has developed a hatred for mortals, a hatred which may have driven him to kill his crew.

Kim and Seven work together to build the new Astrometrics Lab.

Outcome:  Construction begins on the Astrometrics lab.

Seven of Nine begins to have strong Borg hallucinations, and concludes that she is being summoned by the Borg.  She then leaves Voyager, and discovers the vessel that brought her to the Delta Quadrant as a child, the USS Raven.  Upon beaming down to the ship, Seven relives the terrible memories of her assimilation as a child.

Outcome:  We learn a little more about Seven's past.

The Doctor and Seven of Nine discover an alien species which is out of phase of normal vision who is performing scientific tests on the Voyager crew.  These tests have led to the bizarre behavior of several crewmembers, including Captain Janeway.  The tests turn deadly when a crewmember dies.  In order to save the ship, Seven of Nine exposes the aliens, however, they are unwilling to surrender.

Year of Hell I First Aired November 5/97 stardate:  51268.4

Voyager encounters a minor species, the Krenim, while attempting to get home.  Suddenly, the Krenim go from a weak species to a strong one in a matter of seconds.  Voyager must then protect itself from a deadly threat.  However, Voyager soon learns that a Krenim man, Annorax is altering the timeline, thus explaining the fluctuating power of the Krenim empire.  Janeway decides the only way to restore history is to destroy Annorax's timeship.

Outcome:  The Krenim are seen for the second time.  No mention of Kes.

Working on a crippled Voyager, Captain Janeway and her crew work to find a way to outwit the Krenim and Annorax, and thus restore the timeline.  They are soon able to communicate with the abducted Chakotay and Paris, and devise a way to stop Annorax.  With the help of two aliens, Voyager attacks Annorax's vessel, but Janeway must sacrifice herself and Voyager to save the day.

Outcome:  Reset button pressed.

While spending shoreleave on a seemingly peaceful planet, Torres gets accused of having violent thoughts, which may have lead to a attack on the planet surface.  As Tuvok attempts to free Torres, he learns that these alien species are banned from having any negative thoughts, and this has lead to a black market of bad thoughts that the aliens are stealing from the Voyager crew.

Voyager is attacked by Space Pirates, and several key components are stolen during the raid, including a valuable computer core.  When transporting down to the surface of the pirates planet, Janeway learns that the Leonardo Da Vinci program was stolen as well, and the head pirate Tau, has used the Doctors emitter to allow Da Vinci freedom on the planet.  Together, Janeway and Da Vinci must break into Tau's facility to retrieve Voyager's computer core.

Mortal Coil First Aired December 17/97  stardate:  51449.2

Following a shuttle mission, Neelix is severely injured and declared dead.  However, using Seven of Nine's nanoprobes, the Doctor is able to rescucitate Neelix and save his life.  Neelix's beliefs are then questioned when it appears that the afterlife he believed to exists did not.

Outcome:  Voyager's third 'after death' episode.  Neelix dies for the first time.

Voyager discovers  a system of ancient communication arrays, and Seven of Nine uses them to detect a Starfleet vessel in the Alpha Quadrant.  After failing to communicate with the vessel, the crew sends the Doctor's program to the Starfleet ship before it leaves the range of the arrays.  When the Doctor appears on the NX Prometheus, he finds an advanced vessel taken over by Romulans.  He must then work with the EMH-2, his predecessor, to save the Prometheus from the hands of the Romulans.

Outcome:  Starfleet learns for the first time that Voyager is still alive in the Delta Quadrant.


Hunters First Aired February 11/98  stardate:  51501.4

Voyager starts to receive numerous letters from the communications array that sent the Doctor to the Alpha Quadrant.  These letters, from friends and family in the Alpha Quarant, are bitter sweet.  Some news is good, whereas other news offers a dose of unwelcome reality.

While attempting to retrieve a group of messages lodged in one of the communication arrays, Tuvok and Seven are sent to retrieve them.  However, they are soon stopped by an agressive species who claim the arrays as their own, the Hirogen.

Outcome:  Voyager's link to the Alpha Quadrant is lost, and the crew receives letters from home.


Prey First Aired February 18/98  stardate:  51652.3

A member of Species 8472 who is hunted by two Hirogen hunters takes refuge on Voyager.  Captain Janeway then requests the help of an unwilling Seven of Nine to create a singularity which would allow the injured 8472 to leave and return to fluidic space, the domain of 8472.  However, the Hirogen hunter is unwilling to cooperate, as he wishes to complete his 'hunt' and kill the member of Species 8472.

Outcome:  Species 8472 is seen again.

The Hirogen return and are able to defeat and take over Voyager.  The head Hirogen hunter then decides to use Voyager's holodecks to stimulate various hunts.  Using mind-devices, the Hirogen are able to make Voyager's crew believe they are holographic characters, thus increasing the reality of the hunt.  Kim and the Doctor, the only two remaining crewmembers, must find a way to deactivate the mind-devices and thus retake Voyager from the Hirogen.

Outcome:  None.  Last time we will see the Hirogen until the sixth season episode "Tsukatse".
 


The Killing Game II First Aired March 4/98  stardate:  51715.2

Various Hirogen hunts continue on the Holodecks, including a simulation of war torn France from World War II.  The simulations become deadly when a holographic explosion damages Voyager, and the program expands to all of Voyager when the portable holo-emitters, recently installed by Ensign Kim, activate.  Janeway and Seven, the only two crewmembers that are aware of who they are and what is happening, must attempt to deactivate the Holodeck and regain control of Voyager from the Hirogen.

After encountering a massive shockwave, the ship mysteriously enters "Omega Mode", and the Captain implements a series of secret Starfleet protocals.  The senior officers are soon briefed on Omega Mode, a directive which obligates any Starfleet captain who encounters the Omega molecule to obtain it and destroy it, due to it's destructive and unpredictable nature.  However, Seven is hesitant to destroy the molecule, as the Borg viewed Omega as perfection.

Outcome:  None.  Prime Directive Ignored, due to Omega Directive.



Unforgettable First Aired April 22/98  stardate:  51813.4

Chakotay is begged for help from an alien women, Kellin, who he cannot remember helping before.  Chakotay soon learns that the species to which this woman belongs to erases the memory of their presence from encountered aliens.

The Doctor's auxilliary core is retrieved by an alien curator, and is reactivated several hundred years later on the Kyrian/Vaskan homeworld.  The Doctor soon learns that the Kyrians have mis-interpreted history and have blamed Voyager for a disaster which did not occur.  The Doctor must then set the record straight, much to the dismay of the museums curator.  Soon, the people become outraged when they learn of the lies and misconceptions contained within the museum and set out to destroy it.

When the ship is dangerously low on Deuterium, Captain Janeway orders to ship to "Grey Mode'.  However, Seven soon finds a Demon Class planet which may contain large amounts of Deuterium.  When an away team of Paris and Kim disappear, Janeway is forced to land Voyager on the demon planet, and soon find Paris and Kim alive and well, and surviving on the harsh planet without their EVA suits.

Outcome:  The duplicated Voyager crew will return in the fifth season episode, "Course:  Oblivion".

When Voyager encounters a massive nebula, Captain Janeway orders to take Voyager through the nebula instead of around it.  However, the crew experiences severe radiation effects, and must be placed in stasis to be protected from the nebula's effects.  This leaves Seven of Nine and the Doctor to command the ship.  When Seven begins to experience "cabin fever", she begins to hallucinate encounters with an alien, Trajis Lo-Tarik.

Hope and Fear First Aired May 20/98  stardate:  51978.2

An alien translator is able to help Voyager de-crytp a Starfleet message sent to Voyager several months before hand.  The message contents then reveal the coordinates of a Starfleet vessel, apparantly sent to the Delta Quadrant to bring Voyager home using a new technology, Slip-Stream warp drive.  However, when things seem a little too convenient, the crew discovers that the alien, Arturis, may have hidden motives.

Outcome:  The encrypted message from "Hunters" is seen, and it simply reveals that Starfleet has not found a way to retrieve Voyager and bring them home.


Season Four Summary:

Aliens Encountered:  The Borg, Species 8472, the Caatati, the Sanitation Hologram, the Bomar, the Krenim, the Mari, the Space Pirates, the Dream Aliens, the Romulans, the Hirogen, the Allos, the Kyrians, the Vaskans, the Deuterium Aliens, Arturis.
