Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series is a collection of some of the best movies ever made. Apart from the fact that 2 is very similar to 1 (though this is done on purpose) they are all highly original and, in the case of the latter two, amazingly witty.Starring Bruce Campbell as the hapless hero Ash, the first movie was pure horror. Okay, fairly standard horror, but a great movie nonetheless. Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn injected some humor into the franchise, though still keeping the movie horror-based. Thus we are treated to wonderful scenes of Ash fighting his own hand and his girlfriend's severed head biting at Ash's arm. The third movie, Army of Darkness: the Medieval Dead was mostly a comedy, with a kind of horror theme. This one is, as is the case with most fans of the series, my favorite. It is hilarious and gory and fast-paced. One of the greatest movies of all time, although another horror-comedy (From Dusk Till Dawn) follows hot on its tail.
I only recently managed to buy the second movie (at £6.49). I bought The Evil Dead for £3.99 at HMV and the others were there too. I already had Army but with Sam Raimi's original ending. I prefer the cinematic "Hail to the King, baby!" ending and the cheap ones at HMV had both endings! Unfortunately they've gone back up in price by the time I got money (that's why 2 cost more than 1).
In case you don't know, Ash was a normal kid until he encountered the Deadites while vacationing with his girlfriend and a couple of friends at an old cabin in the woods. Later (apparently forgetting all about it) he vacations with another girlfriend at the cabin in the woods (or a very similar one). They go after him again. By this time, Ash is no longer so meek and humble. In the 3rd movie (he ends up in the 1300s) he is a mean, fighting machine.
