A lesson on encountering evil..
Sometimes, in our studies and practices through magick, we encounter that which we believe to be "evil" spirits. They can scare us and make us re-evaluate our path of choice. But we must realize that, by choosing this path that is open to other realms, we must learn the lessons that are presented to us. Some are easily learned and presented in a peaceful way. But the hardest and most difficult lessons are those which we are least prepared for. For instance, I've had experiences with my coven with a certain spirit or force that seems to be following us. It appeared in February of 1998 at an Esbat, and we all about shit our pants, because none of us were prepared for it's presence. It was quite frightening looking, and it's purpose, at the time, was to weaken us. I still do not know to this day, whether it's intentions were to test the strength of the coven, or test each of our own strengths individually.
It may be both. This being made us all weak, magickally speaking, and we felt our energy drain from us, which scared us even more, because we felt powerless against it. The coven quickly got it's first lesson on shields. After a couple months, everything was back to normal.
Months later, in August... one of my covenmates, during a solitary exercise, felt it's presence again, and was frightened at first, but knew what to do immediately. He threw up his shields and banished it from his surroundings. Now the coven is prepared to banish this "evil" thing once and for all. Now that we have learned lessons about shields and banishing, and holding our own energy. And fear is the greatest weakener. When you are afraid, you are weak. The best advice I can give for someone who feels frightened is to go to your "safe space", ground yourself, put up shields to protect yourself, and DO NOT BE FRIGHTENED! By grounding yourself, you gain control of yourself and your surroundings again. Learn to call on your familiars, gods and goddesses, and the elementals for help and protection when necessary. Then you will have the strength to banish that which initially made you frightened.
