In 1988, Zimmer established his ground in the United States with his score to Rain Man. A year after, he scored a Hollywood action drama film for the first time. And the film of course is Black Rain. His style has not changed in a big way since this score. The mix of synthesized and orchestral performances is still the key to his score. After I have heard a bunch of Zimmer action scores, this score does not sound very original to me, especially with only 20 minutes. The theme he composed is a good one with slight exotic touch. It is usually play with flute or synthesizer. The style of the score is very similar to "Beyond Rangoon." Again, Shirley Walker was the woman behind the score. She conducted and orchestrated the score. There are also six songs in the album (including one by Ryuichi Sakamoto), which I always skip all of them. To my knowledge, the CD is a little hard to find in the States. However, it is pretty easy to find in Europe. So, don't get rip by some people when you buy the score. Anyway, I don't think this score is well worth hunting for because the score is not that special. If you want a good Zimmer action score, you know there are many other good ones out there. | |
